Civil war book recomendations wanted
If you saw the movie, you might want a deeper dive: "The Free State of Jones & The Echo of the Black Horn", a double book for less than $20. The FSOJ paints Knight's company as Unionists. The EOTBH paints a different picture of the deserters: Poor dirt farmers that had had enough of a war to keep slavery for the rich planters. TEOTBH takes its title from the original book: "The Call of the Black Horn" BTW.
