dewhorseFor anyone looking for an eye Doc in DFW area
Took my son in for his annual check up and decided it was time for mine, it's been about 2 years (maybe more) for me.
I wanted to look at bi(tri) focal glasses or contacts as I have hit that age. I have swapped almost all of my handgun sights to a FO/tritium/bib orange ball type front sight which helps a bit but the front sight is still quite fuzzy.
Anyway, we talked about the options and he recommended A "mono vision" set up for my contacts. It puts a reader in one eye and a normal lens in the other.
I asked (tentatively, it is Texas but ...) about how it would effect shooting with both eyes open through an optic.
Well it turns out the Doc shoots Service rifle and small bore competitively!!

SCORE!....we talked a bit about where he shoots and where he shoots small bore.....I need to start as I really enjoy shooting my CZ.
He also mentioned I could bring in my firearms so he could build a pair of shooters glasses!
I got home and tried my EDC handgun and thanks be to God I can finally see the front sight clearly....
Here's the Doc's info:

MikeinNCYeah, I just went to the eye doc here in Temple, and when the subject came up for a pair of glasses to focus at 26” (so I can see my front site)..the tech says,” like for shooting?”
I said yes, and she smirks and says don’t worry about that, this is Texas-no ones gonna bat an eye...I told her I was from NC and I had a doctor flip out when I showed up for an appointment while in uniform(police)literally asked why I had to wear a pistol and couldn’t I just leave it in the trunk of my car...
The doc took time to explain everything to me and she says I will get a “sporting” prescription for that set of glasses.
Love it.

KenpoistI just had cataract surgery last Thursday (second eye). I got light adjustable lenses, and my eye surgeon has several professional shooters as clients should be interestingkncethey start adjusting the lenses.
Btw. I had subcapsular cataracts (cataracts on the inside of the lense, opposed to normal ones in the outside). Now at 50 I have brand new eyes

SF1911What's the name of this doctor?
I really miss seeing my front sight. Progressive lenses aren't any help unless I tilt my head back creating an awkward shooting stance.

LS1 GTOMy doctor, in La Mesa, CA , recommended reverse bifocals when I mentioned the second pair is for shooting.

Maybe it's time for another area SF get-together?

texassierraSeveral months ago I found a good deal on a new P229 Classic .22LR (229R-22-BAS) on a Texas specific firearm classifieds. I went to meet the guy and it turned out he is a eye surgeon. He had taken two new Sigs in trade for some eye surgery and he determined that he didn't want them. As I recall the other was a P229 Elite 9mm although I don't remember if it was full stainless or alloy frame but he sold it before I contacted him about the 22LR. Regardless he was selling them at excellent prices. I asked if he just wasn't into firearms he replied that he had quite a few firearms he just didn't need these particular pistols. I asked him to call me if he decided to get rid of anything else.

So I just went back and got a set of “sports” glasses fitted to a set of rayban wayfarer frames. They will have a bifocal, but the normal low location of the bifocal will be higher. This bifocal will have my far distance prescription in the top of the lense . And the bi-focal,(lower) will have an “intermediate “ lense. That will allow me to see my front sight at or around 26” from my eye.
Because I had them set the bi-focal lense higher than my pupil, I won’t have to tilt my head back to see thru it. But will have to tip my head down to see thru the longer focus lense.
One of the guys working there shoots air soft and he knew what I needed for real guns.
He also said if I was a rifle shooter he could put the bifocal lenses in The top of the lenses and the far away lense in the bottom....
Talk to your eye doc..they should be familiar with the process

opticsguywe moved to McKinney in June. Trinity Falls area.
Doctor Murry Johnson at Preston and Frankfurt has been my eye doc for 8 years, and he's the best I've seen yet. I'm not a big fan of mulifocal lenses, but in the right scenario they are useful
