Any recommendations for door hardware, knobs, that is?

The doors will be single panel Shaker style and the wife wants brushed nickel finishing.

I’d like something that feels substantial and durable. Any brands I should be looking at?

No specific recommendation on brand, but I'm a much bigger fan of door handles over knobs. You can use your elbow, butt, whatever, to open them when your hands are full. We installed handles all through are new house and it totally works over knobs.

another endorsement for levers. Fact is that knobs can be a major issue for someone with Arthritis in the hands or wrists and I am actually a bit disappointed that levers aren't in the code for new home or office construction.

Yeah, I know that glass doorknobs are a real classic and the finest doorknob you can put into a pillow case but back when I was a sugarholic I had Arthritis so bad I could barely sign a paycheck and round doorknobs were extremely painful to use.

BTW, I have cut way back on sugar consumption and it's not only almost cleared up my arthritis but cutting way back off any sweets has also allowed me to stay out of AFIB.

I've stopped counting.

But with levers, the raptors can open the doors..

Don't forget the hinges. I got ball bearing hinges a few years ago from hinge outlet.

I prefer levers as well.

Having cats and dogs that I don't want to get out so while bringing groceries in the levers are easier to work.

This, I replaced all my hinges with ball bearing hinges. The original cheap hinges produced black metal dust on the door & trim around the hinges.

I replaced all of my interior knobs with Schlage. Andover trim in brushed nickel. Very happy with the look and they’re Schlage quality. Found my best price (especially for quantity) on build.com at the time.

My only advice is to consider your interior door knob styles when choosing the replacements.

If they contrast, at some point someone is going to notice and probably want the interior ones updated to match.

We replaced older Schlage knobs with Baldwin levers in oiled bronze look; I think it looks much classier. Hardware is a step above Schlage IMO. And Schlage better than Kwikset. There are more expensive brands however, which you can find in a dedicated door/cabinet hardware store.

I don't have a specific brand in mind, but I recommend spending the money on good quality stuff. You're going to to be touching it every day for years and don't want something flimsy or crunchy in its operation.

Both Kwikset and Baldwin are now owned by ASSA ABLOY, and my involvement in the transition suggests the the quality of Kwikset metal finishes has made leaps and bounds from where they were a few years ago. Suggest you review the A - B- C grading of these type of products at https://securehome.org/learning-the-label/
