cooger, this thread really needs videos of your various attempts to document whatever turns out to be the winning suggestion. I can't wait to see the 10mm attempt, but you might want to video that one from a bunker.

I don't think any of the suggestions to put anything (air, liquid) into the bottom glass would work--the reason they are stuck together is that there is a seal between them--likely both a vacuum inside plus friction are bonding them. It will be essential to produce a difference in size between the 2 glasses--expand the bottom one and reduce the top one.

Put ice and water in the top cup, then put the bottom cup in HOT water, then twist.

Sigmonkey….why 10mm? I don't want to blow my house up.

You take them outside...

Big Grin Big Grin

Ok. I pulled them out of the freezer and put the bottom cup in hot water but they still won’t come apart.

Now I’m angry. These stupid things will come apart.

The pressure differential was created by heat from the dishwasher. Seems to make sense that a similar atmospheric pressure outside would have them separate. Thermal expansion allows this. The cooling of the air between the cups is the likely culprit as to why they are stuck together. Get both of them in a similar temperature as the dishwasher drying cycle and they should pop apart in no time.

Either that or I have a 10 round magazine full of 50 BMG. How long is your yard?

This seems like the obvious solution. I would put them in a pot w/ water and heat them.

Ice, salt and water in the inner glass. Submerge the bottom glass in HOT water up to where they are stuck. Wait for the pop. Separate.

One thing is for sure...if you do use the 10MM remedy on yours...every other stuck together Tervis Tumblers around the world would instantly separate with an ear splitting POP at the same moment...it would probably sound like slamming the gates of hell Eek

This but only submerge the outer cup in hot water.

I think the problem with cooling one glass and heating the other is that you're never going to get the air pocket between them to expand because it will never get hot.

I'd try heating both. And since air is an excellent insulator (especially in a vacuum), you'll want to give it some time.

Watch videos on how to separate tie rods/ball joints on cars. It can take tremendous force if you try to separate them using brute force. If you apply pressure to them, and then gently tap the upper ball joint, they usually come right apart. Or something like that, it's been a long time.

So have one person hold the bottom cup, one person hold the top cup, and while pulling apart tap the cups with a mallet. It will go.
