It’s about time to replace my ipad. I’m not enomored with Apple. I’m wondering if there is a substitute that performs the same functions and is easy to use. I’m not real computer literate. Advantages? Contrasts?

In my opinion, no.

My suspicion is that any alternative you try will not perform in the manner you may have become accustomed to with iPads.

I had a Samsung Tablet for a few years and got tired of the heavy "Bloatware" on it, much of which I couldn't remove.

Gave it away and went back to Apple.

My wife uses an iPad. It's great for here because she doesn't need to tinker with it to make it work. I use a Surface Pro but they are pricey and probably overkill for what you use your tablet for. I use a Google Pixel 2 phone and I absolutely despise the Android OS. My advice would be to stick with Apple even though I personally am not a fan of their products.

It is hard to answer that question without knowing what functions you need and/or want.

More specifics about exactly what you don't like about the iPad would help. They tend to be pretty idiot proof.

It all depends on what you're doing with your iPad. I've yet to find anything in a tablet form factor that works as well as the iPad, but perhaps you don't really need a tablet? The best thing I've found for just casual web surfing and email checking is a Chromebook. If you have a Google account and/or Android phone, things sink very nicely with the Google ecosystem.

I am going to say no. Android has its fans and there is ALOT to like about it. That said it usually has a ton of bloatware in my experience and being much less locked down then Apple is a very double edged sword as every Android device I have used over the years has had lots of “undocumented features” so to speak.

Every Apple device I have owned has been a refrigerator (boring, overpriced and the most used completely reliable appliance.).

I am not an “Apple Person” so to speak. Hell Apple literally told me I’m not Apple people but that’s another story. I just think their mobile devices are for the most part the best of the breed for the largest group of consumer users.

If you are more of a geek and want to tinker and play more as well as get more features go with Android. Just be prepared to “tinker”.

A Chromebook may be something to look at for sure.

Reading emails, surfing the internet, watching videos...Kindle Fire. It does all those things for a lot less than an Ipad.

A cheap Fire will frustrate you. But a nice one will do just fine.

I don’t like the price of replacing an ipad. I’m not a big fan of apple business practices. The machine itself seems to work very well and Is intuitive for a non-expert. I have nothing to compare it to, thus the question.

Again, what do you use the Ipad for?

Cheap out and get an Amazon / Android device.

It'll be shit in a year then you can pay for an iPad on top of it all

When my wife, son, dil, daughter, sil and their 5 kids all get together, it looks like an iPad convention. . . or an iPhone convention.
