I see many folks who wear nothing on their head when its nasty cold out. Some people got such thick hair, it dont phase them. That leaves the face and ears exposed to the cold. I cannot believe some men wear a base ball cap for a head cover. I gotta have a good knit hat and often a hood over top that. Absolutely refuse to freeze my head off. I even got a couple of those squirrel hats with the fold up side flaps. Remember Rocky and Bullwinkle? So how do you keep your knoggin warm in the cold weather?

Yes, it is cold out. Given my head is bald (at least most of it) I wear a baseball cap. When in Western Germany back when I was in the army, we wore "pile caps". Think I still have one floating around here somewhere.

Beanies. Lots and lots of beanies.

I shave my head, so head coverings are a must in the late fall, winter, and early spring. All of my various coats and jackets have a beanie stashed inside them, usually thinner synthetic ones that fold up nicely. I have a few thicker and heavier ones for times when I'm going to be outside for extended periods in cold weather.

I've got an Aviator hat that I like. You can put the flaps up or down depending on how cold it is.
Had it since 2011. I like it for being out in winter weather.

It cooks my melon in the coldest weather up at the cabin (6200 ft.) In the early morning I'm wearing it under a hoodie & shemagh, but it's not long until I have to shed one or all of them.

I’ve been using a wool watch cap it keeps my head nice and warm since my hair isn’t as thick as it used to be.

It all depends upon the weather and activity. Most of the time I can get by with a wool stocking cap. This morning while shoveling the driveway it was -2, and by the time I finished, I wished I put on a warmer hat. While standing outside watching snowmobile races in -20+ weather I wear a balaclava for my face and a fur trapper hat.

I usually just wear a baseball cap, but I have a shearling cap around somewhere for when it gets cold. (I need to find it now.)

I usually wear a ball cap but, if its very cold out or, I know I'm going to be outside for more than an hour, in a static position, I'm wearing a beanie. I have lots of them, lined, unlined, folded, basic, wool, synthetic, hybrid, etc... Anyone living in a winter climate should have a box of them, all varieties.

I'm bald, but I find an ordinary baseball cap is good down to the teens unless the wind is blowing. Colder than 20°F or windy, out comes the bomber hat with the ear flaps rolled down enough to cover my earholes.

REALLY cold or windy, the flaps come all the way down and get buckled under my chin.

My regular Carhartt coat will get supplemented with a fleece-lined hoodie if it gets cold/windy as well. I HATE cold wind down the back of my neck.

Nothing>>Baseball Cap or Broad Brimmed Hat>>Ear Band>>Knit Watch Cap>>Rabbit Fur Hat with side flaps and collar.

I will sometimes wear a hood if things are wet enough.

Now that I am in Florida, I seldom if ever get beyond the Ear Band, and then only if the wind is honking.

That LL Bean full rabbit fur trapper hat is the warmest thing I have ever had on my head.

No hat in the Summer.
A regular hat in the Winter. Can be out in the cold for hours.

Pull up the Carhartt hood while snowblowing.

My wife is an outstanding knitter, so I have two or three excellent watch/stocking caps to keep my head warm.

People who only wear baseball caps or no hat at all are really asking for it. They may say that their heads don't feel cold, but you lose more of your body heat through your head than any other parts of your body, and they could unexpectedly find themselves in hypothermia.

I wear a baseball-style hat all year round, but when it gets really cold I put on a beanie to cover my ears.

My hair is buzz cut and doesn’t give me much insulation. Most of the time when I’m outdoors for any length of time I’m shooting or instructing and a military style “patrol” type cap or BB cap with ear muffs is sufficient to keep my head warm. If I’m not shooting myself and it’s really cold, I’ll sometimes wear a large woobie type hood over everything. When not involved with shooting, a patrol cap with ear flaps and a hood of some sort works.

But although we’ve had this discussion here before and some men are scared of not looking manly enough if they wear one, the most important way of keeping warm in cold weather is to wear a scarf (or in these mask-mandatory days, a neck gaiter). My neck is much more sensitive to the cold than my head, and a scarf helps keep my whole body warm.

I will say, though, that I’ve heard for decades that we lose 50 or 75 or 99% or more of our body heat through our heads, and I’ve long wondered how we know that. And if it it’s true, could it be because our heads are the only part of our bodies that can’t be covered fully—and usually aren’t?
My unprotected ears will get cold, but nothing like my feet or hands even with good boots and gloves, so I would think there’s some significant heat loss through the appendages as well—no?

Same. Have a stack of them, and always wear one. Double up with a hood (Carhart) for winter work for the k9's. Teens I wear a full ski mask and a beanie, and the hood. It's going to be 1 degree on Monday, that never happens here.
