Anyone use African Black Soap? I have severe eczema. I'd love to find any kind of treatment to get me off cortico-steroids, or even just lessen the dosage. It seems to get rave reviews on Amazon.

I used it back about 20-25 years ago. Pretty good stuff back then. I did use it for hair & body. I have no idea if what is sold today is the same thing. Got away from it for more convenient stuff.

I've have eczema a few places on my body and have just recently heard of the black soap. I'm very interested to hear more as well!

I've just been using some lotions that seem to help a bit.

Have you tried Dr. Bronner's Castile soap? It is supposed to be very good for eczema, and is all natural. We buy it by the gallon and it lasts a very long time. It can be had cheaper than from the manufacturer- this is just for reference purposes.

I do not know if you have tried this, but supposedly chamomile and calendula are supposed to be good for eczema.

Curious, what soap product are you using now?

Soap making isn’t terribly hard and you can make a super pure product without any added stabilizers, preservatives, or fragrance. I expect that would help.

However, what helps me tremendously is regular daily doses of a very specific fish oil, linked below. I’ve used many different brands over the years, this one is the only one that actually seems to make a difference, PLUS, it doesn’t give me the disgusting fishy burps. I highly highly recommend it. If I forget to take it for even a couple days my elbows go ashy first, then my ears and nose. If it’s coldish outside, my heals and fingertips crack quite painfully. Couple days of the oil pills and I’m back to good.

Have you ever had your vitamin D level checked? Mine was tested and found to be pretty low, and when I started taking Vitamin D daily my skin improved a great deal. Might be worth checking it out.

Yes, it was fine. No improvement supplementing Vitamin D.

Yes, this stuff works magic. I had more eczema than I'd like to admit. Dr. Bronner's soap combined with Neosporin eczema cream has made it all but disappear. I rarely use the cream anymore after regularly using Dr. B's soap.

I've heard of castille soap, but never tried it. That will be next on the experimentation list.

Supplementing fish oil was no help, though not that specific product listed.

Don't know about eczema but we've been using Kirk's Original Coco Castile Soap for years and years. It's All-Natural vegetable based, Hypoallergenic, Biodegradable, and with No Synthetic Detergents.

No reactions, redness, etc. and for those with Type 2 helps keep skin soft and pliable.

My dermatologist suggested CeraVe moisturizing cream. Works well when used twice per day. Available OTC, not cheap.

Have you tried any artisan soap makers? The castille soap is, to me, artisan soap like. Good in many ways.
I've used it and recommend it. But 10+ yrs. ago I got back into wet shaving and sampled some of the face/bathing soaps sold by artisan shave soap makers and it opened my eyes to what soap can be.
I even have a friend who did melt and pour soaps that I used on my face before bed and my skin felt great.

Yes! I buy this or any of similar lotions that use the newer ceramic skin barriers. A quantum leap above old school moisturizers.

Dr. Bronners soap is awesome! The citrus one is my favorite. The peppermint one is good when it’s hot outside, but not in the winter.

I have some spots of it and use Dr. Bronners.

Try the travel size aisle at Target, they have citrus, almond, lavender and another flavor. I use the lavender or citrus.

It worked for me.
My mom brought me some goat milk soap and some glycerine soap...both of the. Worked too...but the Bronners was nearby and mom ain’t.

This is the soap we use too. Pretty good ingredient list and pretty cheap at Walmart.
