I needed change for a $20 and the place I stopped into a Regions bank because it was closer to the main road than driving through the strip center to the Schnucks. There were no cars in the drive through but I went into the lobby. I was the only customer so I thought I made the right call. What can I do for you?" asks the teller. "I'd like two tens for a twenty" I said. "Do you have your account number and ID?" asks the teller. "No, but I have ID" I said, and showed him my driver's license. "Ok, can I take that in the back and scan it and run it through the computer?" asks the teller. "No, I'll go to Schnucks", I said. "I understand." says the teller. All of this to get change for a $20 bill? "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor | |||
