I would like to add some booze to my eggnog for Christmas Eve and am not sure what’s good? We tried adding Myer’s dark rum one year and didn’t really care for it.

Isn’t bourbon also good in it?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This is to add to a store-bought eggnog, I don’t have the time or energy to be making anything homemade.

Thanks!

I like it with Fireball. Or any kind of bourbon.

We have an old family recipe that has both dark rum and either brandy or whiskey in equal portions. A bit of real vanilla is a nice addition too.

If you’re all about easy, Costco sells a readymade eggnog with spirits: spiced rum, whiskey, and brandy, that’s really quite good.

I add about a cup of rum to a blender full of eggnog.

After discovering it a few years ago, we usually have a glass of Evan Williams Egg Nogg on Christmas Eve. To give you an idea, it’s made with “Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Blended Whiskey, Rum and Brandy,” 15% alcohol by volume.

Any good bourbon. Rum is good too. But Myers is very dark with a distinct strong molasses flavor. I can understand not caring for that. Some makers mark bourbon or plantation dark rum would work well. No need to spend a lot when adding to egg nog.

These go to eleven.

Maker's Mark is a nice choice. Very mellow as far as commonly available bourbons go.

I'm going to disagree. Bailey's is nothing more than whiskey, cream, and sugar. You already have the cream and sugar in the nogg. Just add some Jameson.

These go to eleven.

Try a mixture of rum, bourbon and cognac. That's what this recipe calls for and the balance is spot on. I highly recommend making it one year. It takes a lot more effort to make but I guarantee this is the best eggnog you'll ever have. I am constantly asked for the recipe because once you've tried it everything else just pales in comparison.

Beat the egg yolks until they're pale yellow. Stir slowly while adding the cognac, rum, bourbon, sugar, milk and cream to the egg yolks.

In a separate bowl beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the egg whites into the yolk mixture and transfer to a punch bowl. Sprinkle freshly grated nutmeg on top of the eggnog for garnish.

We use Buffalo Trace Bourbon Crème mostly but I’m more of a straight bourbon in mine. When kids are around, you never know what’ll make it’s way in it from the cabinet… actually I need to start hiding it all when they are home

To any eggnog, add a single splash of bitters to make it exceptional. I experimented with different bitters but really like Fee Brothers Old Fashion bitters.
