I’ve told the story a couple of times and I’ve attributed my admonishment to you. I can’t even say how long ago it was but I was being a schmuck here on SIGforum. There weren’t as many people here back then and I enjoyed some sort of class clown popularity. I got to poking fun and being a know it all and I do believe it was you that called me out on it. I don’t remember what I posted but I know that I realized you were right. I remember changing and realizing being popular shouldn’t be at the expense of others. I feel I became not only a better SIGforum member but also a better person. I needed it and I thank you.

Do you remember that? It was you, correct?

Hey Mark,

You and I have been around SF a long time. I don’t remember any exchange like that. It would be in my character to do something like that, as I would expect someone to call me out on something too. But I can’t lay claim to this specific instance.

But you are a good man changing for the better.

...You, higher mammal. Can you read?

We all make bad mistakes. It’s our reaction to realizing our error and especially our corrections we make that matter most.

I had a reason for asking because I used it recently to let someone know that they’re not being a good netizen.

I was quietly and rationally served a well deserved comeuppance early in my SF life from none other than JALLEN. It has served me well. An occasional brake check does wonders for us all.

Thank you for adding your experience. Being adults, we should be able to take advice about ourselves and thank the person for pointing out our shortcomings.

We all mature and amend our behaviors over time. Edifying environments like SIGforum expedite that progress. I've been admonished here. one of my first posts was selfish and offensive. It was incongruous with the culture here but I didn't have enough experience to know it. I came from other more boisterous and irreverent forums where such a post was typical. Over time, and with maturity, I modified. I prefer myself now to then.

There are members here who rub my fur the wrong direction. I give them the benefit of patience for the most part as others have given me. Occasionally, a member earns a dog-piling. Those are fun to watch and participate in. If things go too far, there is a word or two, sometimes paragraphs from Parabellum that temper things. And that has become a thing I look forward to. It keeps the environment edifying. I think all of the above is what makes SIGforum the most remarkable forum on the web.
