When I moved to Arizona I have both coyotes and road runners in my yard at various times.
The max sprint speed of a coyote is about 26 mph and the max sprint speed of a road runner is about 12
My whole childhood was spent believing that it was the other way around

Yes, but the agility of the roadrunner means it is very unlikely to be caught… well, that and coyotes are looking for larger meals than that.

In the other Road Runner cartoons, he just acted blase, at most mildly amused, over the Coyote's attempts to catch him. This one ("The Solid Tin Coyote"), made after the "classic" period in the 1950s, was the only instance in which he was genuinely frightened and actually caught.
