Not defending Smith’s actions, but am I the only one that wondered why he
Slapped him instead of punching him? I don’t think I’ve ever considered slapping someone. But maybe that’s just my toxic masculinity

BMR^^^^Likely a conscious decision because a punch could cause a lot more damage than a slap.
The clapping seals in the audience are just laughable, giving a standing ovation to Smith after he did that, even though he “apologized” while leaving out the most important person, Rock.

IronbuttDidn't watch it. I wouldn't watch if the whole auditorium had broken out in a full scale riot. For weeks, the media have been reporting how these awards shows have become irrelevant, and how viewers have fallen to practically nothing.
Then, out of the blue, something mildly interesting happens this time around. These are fakes giving other fakes presents & patting them on the back for being convincing fakes.
It was staged! They're actors!

I don’t know, full scale riots inside hotel ballrooms sounds like gladiatorial combat. Put it on PPV, give the participants edged weapons… yeah I’d watch it then.

You're fooling yourself. This incident is an embarrassment for Hollywood and for the Oscars, and one the entire world seems to know about this morning.

220-9erI agree, I think it was staged.
That said, many won't figure that out and it is a terrible example for young folks.
I guess Will was defending her virtue. Then I saw that both his wife and daughter are polyamorous, with his full support.
I had to look that one up. I'm so last century. It means his females (not to word he likely uses) like to do lots of other dudes and even dudetts with his approval, maybe while watching.
Such a wholesome crowd.

For those of you who didn't go to schools that were predominantly minority, what you saw with Will Smith was something that happens all the time with the minorities and that's the sucker punch. No warning, just out of nowhere. It's something to be aware of when around that demographic.

And yet he worked it into his acceptance speech. I agree that it’s either scripted, or pre-planned. It’s on every morning news broadcast, leading the war in Ukraine. More publicity than they could pay for.

The Oscar's commie woke producers would NEVER have a fake act of ghetto violence onstage between two of Hollywood's most famous black guys. And the TV network certainly would NEVER allow the word fuck, and it variations, to be used in a skit. Network TV (ABC, CBS, NBC) is not like HBO or even AMC.

vinnybassThat was real alright. And it won't change my mind if both parties later report it to be fake to walk back the repercussions.
Another thing, we used to live in a world where a smack in the mouth was something of a deterrent to assholes being assholes.
I'm not saying that in this case Chris Rock was, or wasn't owed comedic immunity. What I am saying is we lived in a marginally more polite world when you couldn't insult anyone with impunity. Back in a time when a bust in the grill made more people act civilly.

bdylanThat event has been on life support for years. Now, folks will hate that they missed this delicious bit of drama and tune right in next year. It's good they used professional actors so we can't be sure if it was directed.
