Chris Rock has a lot more restraint than I do. Jada was fucking her son's friend while he was going through mental and physical issues. Plenty of low hanging fruit there.

Yeah, that was real. You could tell by the look on his face. He wasn't fucking around.
I think we can all understand the need/want to stand up for your wife, but come on. You're going to potentially torpedo your career and make an ass of yourself in front of the whole world...over a joke? I always thought Smith had more class than that.
I guess you can take the kid out of the hood....

2Pac, Nipsey Hussle, even Snoop were from the hood. Will Smith was raised in middle class suburbia.
What does it take to torpedo your career in Hollywood, besides being a conservative? I mean the bar has been set about as fucking low as it gets. Besides raping women and kids, which most seem to get away with anyways, what else?

Looks real to me. If it was staged I’d expect different camera angles to be ready to catch Smith going up on stage instead of the one they quickly cut to that just shows his back. Also his reaction would have likely been immediately negative had it been scripted. Instead at first you see him laughing. Combined with his yelling from his seat and the uncomfortable way Rock responded makes it seem real.
If it isn’t real then that scene needs to win awards next year.

Very revealing black culture moment. Rock "dissed" Smith and Smith slapped him. Pretty much what all the homies in the hood do on a daily basis. But they shoot each other! Appears the only difference is money! And Hollywood.

I'm in the that hit was real and unscripted camp.
Comedy Club 101, you sit in the 'target zone' of a comedian and he/ she sees something, anything, that can be used to generate laughs, yeah, they are going for the joke... and, if the reaction of the target victim is anything but laughter, say they show anger, many comedians will be unmerciful in their follow-on attack.
Back in the '80s my girlfriend and I double-dated with her roommate and her boyfriend, an active duty Navy sailor on leave, and we went to a comedy club. We sat at a table very close to the stage. The sailor wore an eye catching red matador suit with all the piping and frills, a`la something Michael Jackson might wear (I did mention it was the '80s).
The comedian zoned in on the sailor's outfit and the joke assault commenced. The redder the sailor's face got, the more the comedian hammered him...and the crowd loved it. As bizarre as that outfit was, I am soooo glad he wore it.
You put a comedian like Chris Rock on stage with a well-recognized audience on a nationally televised once-prestigious event, and you gotta know he is going for the jokes, wherever he finds them in the moment.
Will Smith not understanding how a comedian like Chris Rock works, even while MCing, is like going to a Gallagher show and not expecting to come home soaked and stained.

Chris' smile got real crooked toward the end of that clip. I don't see why Will got so wound up. His wife is a floozie. She has cuckolded Will in public. Were I Will, I would have left her long ago and certainly not have defended her 'honor'. And to do it there like that.......ghetto.
As to Sean: Will he also hold his breath?

Nope. Listen, not only to what Smith said after he returned to his seat, but also, how he said it- twice.
He laughed initially because he was being watched live by millions of people, and then, the insult sank in and he went with his impulse. This was genuine.
Not to mention, you don't plan a publicity stunt around making jokes in public about your wife's chronic medical condition.
Here's a good breakdown and elaboration of what happened. Notice how Will was laughing along until Jada gave him her stink eye.
Here's some on-site audience footage shortly after the incident during a commercial break.
Rock's bald joke was a slow-pitch softball lob, like an easy joke you'd expect from a struggling amateur comic on open mic night. As Rock put it, "That was a nice one," b/c if he wanted to lay a sick burn, he knows what to say to make it hurt.
This is a case of the Streisand effect in action. The joke would have been forgotten as soon as the next presenter took the stage, but due to Will Smith's over-the-top reaction, it will live forever in infamy. For at least the next week, it will be talked about incessantly.

It looked to me that Jada did not like the joke and gave an evil look at Chris Rock and then a real evil look at Smith who was laughing, resulting in........Baby Mama Drama.

Rock should check his face for Fresh Prints.
Not mine, I stole that from someone else.
Anyway, my wife and I saw this report from a friend, we don't watch this drivel, and our impressions were that this was staged.

Yes. I’m thinking the comedian in him was thinking about all of the attacks he could launch on Will Smith and Jada.

100% chance that at some point in the near future you will see a prominent comedian work the phrase “black on black crime” into one of their bits based on this incident.
