I should also note I do not have a video screen inside the truck as it is too old. So any suggestion should include a screen or phone app if available.

My office is moving and I'm going to have to park in an underground parking garage with limited room. I'd like to get something to help see when I'm backing up. My view is limited out the back because I have a shell/cap as well.

Thx!

A few years ago I had one installed in my Mazda, it cost about $600, the screen is actually in a new rearview mirror and the camera sits just above my rear license plate.

Well worth it IMO, was done at a car audio shop.

Garmin has some rearview cameras that will couple nicely with some of Garmin's GPS or GPS / dash camera units for display.

One of the things I like best about Garmin is the tech support group -- U.S. based, of course they're native English speakers, and it's easy to reach them via phone, email, or the "chat" thing on their website.

Many of Garmin's GPS units have free map updates for life.

Garmin, much like Apple, re-furbs many units in-house and sells them on the website at a good discount.

I just added this one to my 2007 Tacoma. Admittedly, I had just installed an aftermarket head unit, but might be a good time to do so yourself.

I like almost anything garmin, but I would not recommend their backup camera. There are much better alternatives.

If you can afford it I’d highly recommend changing out the radio- you can get newer features like Apple CarPlay and AndroidAuto which are very convenient, and you’ll have a 6” or 7” screen integrated into your dash where it belongs. Nothing clamped on or sitting on your dash, asking to be stolen. And it’s much easier to see the backup camera on a larger quality screen.

If you go to a local car audio shop they should be able to show you what the camera image looks like. There are big differences in camera quality.

For a radio I recommend Sony for quality and mostly for simplicity of operation.

Inputting a camera into an independent screen will be less expensive, but you have to find a place to put it. I don’t personally like the mirrors with built in screens- screen is not that big, and while they look great at night or in the shade, I find them very hard to see in bright sunlight, where for example a bright parking lot is your background and the mirror becomes a silhouette.

That has not been my experience with the rearview mirror, screen-based unit I have. It’s the whole entire mirror not just a thumbnail, and it’s very bright and high definition and I have no issue with visibility during the daytime. The only issue I have is my wife’s Odyssey has it in the dash and I’m constantly looking up at her rearview mirror when backing up instead of looking at her screen because I’m used to that.

Depends on what you want to pay and do, I'm putting one in my 03 F150, new radio with backup camera.

Crutchfield is a good source, input the vehicle and it will give you the models that fit, just scroll through to find those that come with a backup camera, although as long as the head unit accepts a video input you can add any vehicle camera.

For example input 07 Taco and several come up, this one with the camera for $219.00, if you can do the work then it's a bargain head unit with lots of features included camera.

I called them to discuss and came up with the one that fit the budget and they have all the adapter harnesses so it becomes more plug and play.

IF you don't want to wire anything in there are BT option cameras that have a solar charging BT camera for the plate and a monitor you keep in the car, had this one, the issue was where to mount the monitor it works well for BT, no wiring, easy hook up, if you have a good place to put the monitor it is the least cost easy install unit.
