Home from the Hospital
Got home Friday...thank God.

The surgery was Monday, the 5th. They did a Femoral Artery Bypass, right leg. Surgery took about 4.5 hours. The main artery down the leg was clogged, the Arteriogram (sp) showed it was so clogged that surgery was the only fix. They take one of your long Veins down there, pull it out, and use that to bypass the clogged part of the artery. I know, I know. WTF?

They had me walking on it in the Hospital and I continue that at home. I'm old so I am going pretty slow. The pain seems to get better each day, so that is good. They have me elevate the leg when sitting down due to the swelling that seems to come and go. The Doc wants to leave the bandages on for 2 weeks.

I know, didn't happen without pics, so here is the leg. There is another 4 inch incision right in my groin. Ow.

They are expensive but you should get yourself some compression socks and USE THEM. After my Mitral Valve repair and triple bypass I basically lived in compression socks for 2 moths solid. The only time I took them off was when I took a shower. They keep swelling down and prevents pain in the feet from swelling and one you are used to them can actually be comfortable. As for the benefits I'm surprised your doctors didn't tell you they are a MUST. If they did tell you then start wearing them, if they didn't you have a lousy doctor.

I've stopped counting.

How does that happen? Blood clot?

That sounds quite painful. I’m happy to hear you’re home and on the mend.

Thanks for the well wishes guys, appreciate it. Sorry for the late response but sitting at the computer is not all that comfortable right now, but I will check in.

No it's not caused by a clot, the artery gets clogged by several things, high cholesterol, fatty foods, smoking, and probably a bunch of other things that I can't remember right now. Often it can be fixed by that roto-rooter thing I mentioned and then they put in a stint. Not for my leg though.

Compression socks, huh? They did give me a pair of socks when I left the hospital but I don't remember hearing that term. I will take your word for it and ask the wife to look around town for some of those. Would a pharmacy carry them?

Yes. You can also order online. Watch several videos on Youtube on how to put them on. Not easy at the outset.

Don’t skip on the compression socks.

Hey everyone, thanks again for the encouragement.

Yeah, I am looking for the compression socks for sure. Will have the wife check around the area tomorrow, if none then will be on Amazon.

Ha, I figured you all good do without the groin closeup. Razz

Glad you are on the mend!
I watched a documentary that showed embalmers seeing a large amount of arteries that are clogged since mid 2021 never seen before. If you want to watch it email me I will pass it on there.

I have worn compression socks for 35 years. I started with Jobst (expensive), but then found Gold Toe compressions. They lasted me a long time (I buy 15 pair at a time, wear once and launder every two weeks, so that helps with the longevity). I finally (last year) tried some of those mentioned from Amazon. They are great, and cheap, but they tend to lose their compression more quickly. But still, I could buy several sets of 15 pair for the cost of one set of Gold Toes.
