Ok, ok, I’m not super excited, but my wife has always wanted to go. It’s 10th wedding anniversary time, so if she’s excited to go, I’m excited to go with her. I literally know nothing about NYC other than we’ll likely fly in to La Guardia middle of the week and fly out again on Saturday.

Thoughts on where to stay, what to see, what to avoid? I’m sure we’ll plan to see a show (is Lion King still playing) and at least one nice dinner, but otherwise we’re open to ideas. Timeframe will likely be late fall.

Thanks in advance.

Take her to a Broadway show. The MET is a worthwhile day, the guns and armor collection is quite impressive, plus Washington Crossing the Delaware.

Follow this link to see what is playing on Broadway: https://www.nyc.com/broadway_t...FEAAYAiAAEgIJR_D_BwE

Ground Zero deserves a visit.

The new One World Trade tower is an absolute MUST see. Walk around the observation floor on top and think about the fact that 22 million people live within your line of sight! Then be glad that you get to go back home!

My wife is from NYC, my daughter lives there. I avoid going whenever possible. But that and the 9/11 museum are incredible. You can easily spend a day in the museum, but if you have limited time, go to the very bottom of the museum and see the original foundations of the two twin towers. It is fascinating to see how they were built. Also interesting to see the "before" pictures of lower Manhattan before the "urban renewal" that preceded the twin towers. I was there in college in the 60's and remember all of the small electronics shops, camera shops, etc that were displaced.

One World Trade Tower

I've seen the original memorials but haven't been up in the towers yet but I want to.

I've always enjoyed my time in NYC. I don't think I would want to live there but a few days is fine.

Tough question. NYC (I was born there and lived in the area until I joined the Navy) has so many things to offer, and we don't know anything about your tastes and preferences.

My suggestion, get a copy of the Michelin Green Book. You can find this at any map store, Barnes & Noble, Amazon, etc.

Take a look at the Michelin website.

Michelin publishes two different guide books. The green one is a tourist guide, the red one has listings and ratings of hotels and restaurants. A complete system, get Michelin maps, too, as the red and green guide books are cross-referenced to map coordinates.

During the year and a half that my wife and I lived, worked, and traveled in Europe, the Michelin system was our guide.

I guess there's a phone app now, as well. I have not seen it.

I would suggest getting the guide books ASAP, there is a lot to absorb about NYC.

On a trip this short, confine yourself to Manhattan. Nothing to see in the outer boroughs anyway Wink Depending on your cultural interests. Visit either the the metropolitan museum (art & history) or the museum of natural history. The later also has the Hayden planetarium. The Empire State Building on a clear day offers memorable views. Visit The USS intrepid air & space museum & then down to Liberty island & lady liberty is a fun day trip. A walk through Wall Street after visiting lady liberty later in the day is wise. Times Square & a broadway play of your choice kills two birds...

Not sure what kind of hotel you are looking for. There is an interesting Marriott Residence Inn - Residence Inn by Marriott New York Manhattan/Central Park.

It is near Central Park, very modern, rooms on the highest floors in the city. Incredible views if you get an upper floor room.

I don't know what your preferences are, but there are many wonderful churches in NYC: St. John the Devine; St. Pauls; St. Patricks; Riverside--too many to list.

Lots of parks, too: Battery, Central, Bryant, and Liberty Island.

Take a sunset cruise on the river. (Can get great photos of Lady Liberty!)

If you like fun--go to Coney Island. (And eat a hot dog.)

Grand Central Terminal is just awesome!

And, of course--ride the subways! (Keep your hand on your wallet, though.)

St. Patrick's Cathedral is neat place to check out, and so is Grand Central Station.

Someone mentioned catching a Broadway Show, but if you cannot do that a walk through the Theatre District would still be pretty neat to see.

Check out Times Square.

The museum's already mentioned are great, but another one to consider is The Morgan Library & Museum.

I visited it once and found in absolutely fascinating. Would
love to visit again some day.

If you have extra time and can rent a car, the West Point Military Academy is not too far a drive away. It is located near Bear Mountain State Park which is absolutely beautiful in the fall!

Have a great visit!

One of my favorite things to see in NYC is The Intrepid Sea, Air, & Space Museum:

https://www.intrepidmuseum.org/

and for dinner, Becco (owned by Lidia Bastianich - get the pasta special!) is just a few blocks in from the aircraft carrier on west 46th:

Enjoy!

Also, absolutely do not bring any weapons into NYC, don't even have an empty cartridge shell in your luggage, a flashlight is okay.

I was recently transferred to Manhattan for work and have learned more about the city than I ever wanted to know, but not all bad. Hotels can fluctuate wildly during the year, so good luck. I had to stay in the city last week and the Intercontinental Barclay was a bargain/deal and is close to Park Ave and shopping. This week however it’s almost 2x the price I paid. Go figure. Plan ahead.
Take her to see Grand Central and have a drink at the Campbell Apartments while there. Go to 5th / Madison Avenue and see the shopping and Central Park. You may want to see the Plaza Hotel while in the area. Have a drink at the King Cole bar at the St Regis while in that neighborhood. Head south to Wall Street, see the Exchange, the bull, and then head west to the 911 Memorial and 1 World Trade. The observation deck at 1 World Trade is worth the wait but buy a ticket / make a reservation in advance. While in that area consider whether you have time to take a boat to the Statue of Liberty, but seeing it from Battery Park is good too. Find a show as others have recommended and fit it in one evening. The discount tickets are definitely the way to go. Also see who might be playing at Madison Square Garden. It’s actually a good venue.
There are a daunting selection of good restaurants. With guidance on what you like people here could give you suggestions.

If the opportunity presents itself, Delmonico's makes some amazing food. It is not cheap, but the service is amazing and the food is indescribable. They age their beef in house, and it is cooked to absolute perfection.

Carmine's on the upper west side, not the one in midtown, if you're in the mood for some real Italian food. Be fore warned, the prices look high because the serving size is family. If you're interested in Grand Central Terminal, I worked on the restoration for three years, and know all the secrets.

I agree with staying in Manhattan for this short trip.

Figure out what you like? Museums - art, natural history? There are dozens of choices. Met, Guggenheim, Natural History, dozens of others.

Restuarants - look at Michelin. Some of the best choices in the world are there. I would eat at Katz's deli myself.

Central Park zoo, or other attractions at Central Park.

Tourist spots - Empire State, Statue of Liberty, World Trade, and others.

Shows - musicals, straight plays, opera, concerts - see what is playing.

Sporting events - basketball at the Garden?

Contact Art Zuckerman at http://www.ztravelandleisure.com/ and he and his wife will give you a personal customized full day tour of the entire island of Manhattan. My family and I did that when we went to NYC for the first time for a long weekend and it was amazing. I highly recommend it. He is a great guy and will make it very special for you. Email me if you’d like some of the brochures he sent us back in 2016. He picked us up right at our hotel in Times Square at 9am and dropped us off there at 6pm! It was a great day to see so much that NYC has to offer.

Don't let the constant anti NY chatter get you down on going, NYC is one of the greatest places to visit, lots of history, lots to do, great food and a lot of good people, regardless of the politics, turn that stuff off and enjoy one of America's iconic cities..

Since everyone else is running youse aroun da city, yer gonna need sustinance,

https://katzsdelicatessen.com/

then, go to McSorleys, est 1854 it's NYC's oldes continuously operating saloon, women were not allowed in until the 70's, sawdust floors, it's an icon, MCSorley Ale and Lager... Plate of cheese.

It's as New York City as it gets....

While sitting at the bar one afternoon with a rep the bartender jumps over the bar with a baseball bat and runs out the door, nobody acts panic'd or worried, patrons just keep sipping their beer, few minutes later he walks back in and we asked him what was up. Apparently a guy tried to rob the shop next door, the bartender wasn't needed, the UPS guy had the robber down on the floor and was sitting on him...

Ordered another round..
New York City,
