Connor McGregor? A publicity stunt???
I don't really follow UFC or MMA.

Just heard about it on the radio. Apparently he is moving to wrestling, WWE? I don't follow that either, but he is supposed to wrestle.

Was his latest fiasco just publicity to promote his "bad boy" image to show up as a Bad Boy in wrestling?

I don't care either way. Just a weird situtation. Guy destroyed his career, if he didn't plan it out right.

Definitely.

The charges are real for sure - but IMO he did the whole thing to stay in the spotlight. He'll get a slap on the wrist.

His 'badboy' media persona will be enhanced, not harmed.

Shrewd marketing gimmick. He made over $30M to fight Mayweather. He is not hurting financially. This will only increase his marketing cloud when he decides to fight in the UFC again as a 'Heel'.

If he gets sued and i costs him a lot, it was not a publicity stunt.

If the lawsuit goes away fast or never is filed, then it was a stunt.

That’s my take.

Agreed. The ramifications will be telling.

+1. A stunt for sure. As I understand it, the bus was full of UFC fighters. Each one of them will do what Dana White tells them to do if he wasn't behind the entire thing already. Charges will be dropped where possible and all that will happen is more buzz around the cash cow.
I liked the response from the guy he was supposedly calling out, something like "if you are so gangster why didn't you get on the bus and find me". Instead throws big objects at bus making a big scene, but no actual punches thrown. Seems pretty weak to me.

I can't imagine it was a stunt, Connor's friend/fighter on the card was yanked after this "stunt." It was retaliation according to Dana White, Connor is worth a lot of money now and he thinks well...he has always thought he was the shit.

How would the court system be in on the stunt?

It might have started as a stunt in McGregor's mind but the ramifications are certainly real.

50,000 bail is a hellava stunt Roll Eyes. However, ufc223 will probably be watched more because of the updated card and the Namajunas/Jedrzejczyk rematch.

Yep. Started as a stunt and he took it too far.

Wasn't a stunt - the guy is a whack-job with no self control and has never been held accountable for anything.

He injured two fighters on tonights card in NYC that have been forced to withdraw.

He's from Ireland - not Canada.

Is there a story here? What are we talking about? What publicity stunt? What charges are being filed and why? Can't we get a link or something?

It wasn’t a publicity stunt he’s always been batshit crazy. Mix that with immaturity and drugs and you have episodes like this that unfortunately affect others.

Conor is a Manlet so the WWE is out.

The unfortunate part is even though this episode will cost him millions he will make a fortune when he fights Khabab with the attention this brings.

Again - not a stunt from the standpoint that it was a 'fabricated event'.

But definitely a stunt from the standpoint that the Cost is calculated to be 5 but the Payoff is calculated to be 50.

Crazy like a fox as they say. It will pay dividends. Plus the old saying 'no such thing as bad publicity' especially in the MMA world. There has to be a 'Heel' to make the match-ups sell maximally.

I see it as activity that management knew was possible based on what he's done lately in other promotions.

He's seriously interfered in fight cards that didn't feature him, all because he's addicted to the attention. He clearly overreached and he's going to be sued by multiple people. Doubt he learns any lessons though.

As the saying goes "The pain to stay the same must exceed the pain to change". He has too much new money to reach that pain threshold yet.
