Shit don't mean shit |
I had a package shipped to a wrong address once, 2 houses down from my current house, but it was before I moved in. I had bought a tractor that needed some parts. I ordered the parts a day or two before my closing, and I messed up the address. Lucky for me, the neighbor who's address I had sent it to just held on to it. When I never received the package I called the place I ordered it from and they gave me the address of where I had it shipped to. Because I was new to the neighborhood, the recipient had no idea who I was either, but he held on to it. Hold onto it for a few days and see if someone comes looking for it. Or, open it up and enjoy some free weed, lol.

I’m not going to open it. Not interested. I set it out by the front door. FedEx or anyone else can have it. Like someone mentioned earlier, FedEx delivered it to the address on the package so they couldn’t possibly care less.

UPDATE: FedEx pulled up to the neighbor’s house so I ran the package over and told them it’s not mine. They can’t take it because they are FedEx Ground and the package is FedEx Express. They started to tell me that “you have to take it to” … I stopped them right there and said I’ll just leave it on my porch and if it’s still there in a couple days I’ll toss it in the trash. They said “yep, you can do that.”

It wouldn't surprise me if it were some union rule of some sort that prevented them from taking the package. _____________

Fighting the good fight |
It's not a union rule. FedEx Ground and FedEx Express are two different shipping networks, and actually two different companies. FedEx Express is the original FedEx, which now only handles 1-2 day Express shipping by airplane with final delivery by FedEx Express delivery drivers. Whereas FedEx Ground is a subsidiary company of the FedEx parent company which handles non-express, non-air shipments that move cross country by tractor-trailer with final delivery by FedEx Ground delivery drivers. Further, FedEx Ground delivery routes are operated by subcontractors who bid on delivery routes, not FedEx company employees. (Kinda similar to franchisees.) So that FedEx Ground driver he was talking to is at least two steps removed from the FedEx Express network that his mystery box came through. It's a bit like asking a DoorDash deliveryman to take a misdelivered Pizza Hut pizza back to Taco Bell. Taco Bell and Pizza Hut have the same parent company, but aren't themselves the same company, and the DoorDash driver doesn't work for any of them.

Thank you Very little |
Open it, could be medication for someone, not everything shipped is a Sopranos Twist on How to scam pot, money or something illicit. Could be someone down the street, elderly even made a mistake. First order my 84 year old dad did for Kroger home delivery he had delivered to a house three doors down. Lucky they knew him and had it brought over to his house.

FedEx put a bicycle on my porch, not my name or address. The street was about ten blocks away. I looked it up online, it was a 2500 dollar bike! I stopped at the address on the way home from work the next day. FedEx had already been to my house to get it, and delivered it to the right house.

Maybe take it to the closest Fedex hub?

I’ll allow you the honor. Stop by anytime. Personally, I don’t work for FedEx.

UPS delivered someone quite expensive Bose Sound System package to our house incorrectly a few years ago. I called UPS and got nowhere. Same thing, hangups and foreigners who "could definitely help me" but of course...didn't. I called Bose, and they didn't seem to have a process to fix it either. As far as they were concerned, their customer would file a lost package when they noticed and then it would be up to UPS to investigate and find the package. They wouldn't even take my information down. I had an order number, a person's name, and everything. I decided if no one came for it in a week, I'd just open it and keep it. A UPS driver showed up hat in hand 2 days later. We gave him the package and explained how much we'd tried to get the information to him, explained my calls with their customer service, local delivery center, and even Bose. He was flabbergasted, none of that made it to him and he was pretty concerned for his job. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "The trouble with our Liberal friends...is not that they're ignorant, it's just that they know so much that isn't so." mark123, open it and see what is in it. Most likely, there’s an invoice and a phone number for the person who DID order the item. It’s the right thing to do, not leave it out on your porch, if you aren’t willing to drop it off at a FedEx office location. It’s a mistake by someone, likely not FedEx. They fat fingered their address, maybe moved in down the block, etc. If it’s FedEx Express, there’s a phone number underneath the address on the label, at the least google that phone number and see what you get. Speaking from experience, I’ve ordered irreplaceable items from around the world, and had them delivered via various carriers. Sometimes the seller messes up, sometimes the carrier, but I’ve always been grateful when someone takes the 10 seconds to see what the item is if it’s been misdelivered, and contact me. I’ve paid that forward as well.

About once or twice a year I get a message left on my phone from someone leaving instructions. A week ago I got a message at about 3 AM from a lady requesting prayer from her spiritual advisor. Sometimes it is someone giving instructions to a child. I always take the time to call the person back and explain they left the message with the wrong person. Somebody may be dependent on that message getting through. The same could be true of that package. Somebody may need it.

On a last attempt, I tried the online chat. It’s clearly not a human but it’s obviously smarter than the lady in India that I talked with previously. FedEx is scheduled to pick up the package within 2 business days.

FedEx picked up the package this morning and hopefully it’s on the way to the correct address this time. Either that or FedEx has an incinerator for just such an occasion.

Going to laugh my ass off if it gets delivered back to you in a couple of days. "The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people." "Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy." "I did," said Ford, "it is." "So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?" "It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want." "You mean they actually vote for the lizards." "Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course." "But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?" "Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

We got an overnight package (envelope) from a bank in Florida to our address, but the wrong person (middle of last week). Tried calling the phone number listed from the sender on the envelope - robot just asked for an account number, etc. Couldn't get through to a human. Wife called Fedex and they said to take it to any Fedex location. I was a bit miffed, that they wouldn't send someone back by to pick it up. She drove it to a Fedex location anyways. I found the likely owner's address (similar to ours but definitely wrong and even wrong zip code) but could never find a phone number. Next time it happens I'll just open it instead. -------------------- I like Sigs and HK's, and maybe Glocks
