Why Are So Many Subarus White?
Interesting observation I've made ever since I decided to look at a Subaru Forester as my next car sometime soon. It seems to me like 75% of the Subarus I see on the roads around here are white. Maybe it's not that high a percentage or maybe its my perception but an awful LOT of them seem to come in white.

I wonder if that is Subaru thing or what? To play into the whole notion that they are "safe"? I see other colors but it seems like the majority of them are only white colored?

I think that's just reflective of the modern compact SUV market, and not unique to Subarus.

White SUVs/CUVs today is like the beige sedans of the 1990s or the silver compacts of the 2000s.

It's the default/most common choice so you see more of them.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Not around here. All the ones I’ve seen are non-white.

Not many white Subaru here in Arkansas either. Every other car is white but not the Subarus.

Perhaps because Subaru owners tend to be practical and white is practical on a car. It reflects heat, doesn't show much dust, and is pretty visible to other drivers.

Very few white Subies in my neck of the woods.

Personally, I notice patterns like car colors, but I haven’t noticed this about Subarus since I’m an owner and notice most I see.

I live between Austin and San Antonio, but I’ve traveled to big Subaru areas like Colorado and the PNW. Locally and afar, I haven’t noticed this trend.

Also, my ‘20 Crosstrek was cool grey khaki, my ‘23 Forester Wilderness was white, but my ‘24 Forester Wilderness is glacier blue.

To add, I really notice other Wilderness models, and most are not white.

Possibly because it's a Japanese car. A large percentage of automobiles over there are white. As to why that is, I've seen a lot of theories....

According to AI, 48% of cars in Japan are white. The same percentage also applies to the cars imported into the US.

I expect white paint is less expensive. I’ll consult my paint buddies.

everyone is worried about resale. I prefer Green cars but you'll almost never see them.

I found the white Mazda CX-5 I wanted recently but it sold before I could grab it so I settled for Machine Gray Metallic and one trim level down to get a naturally aspirated (not turbo-charged) engine without cylinder deactivation. After the issues we’ve had with my wife’s current turbo-charged engine and since I plan to keep it for a long time, I wanted as few of the typical maintenance issues as possible.

I’ve seen a lot of white everything in the past several years. I figured with Covid and the economy, manufacturers may have scaled back on their choices to streamline production. This is just a guess but I’m sure they could cut costs by offering black, white, and one or two other color options instead of 10-15 colors.

Or the "teal" in the early 90s. Very popular on GM cars and trucks.

For the OP's question, no, I don't see many Subarus in white. Several - almost half - of my cars and trucks in my 50 years driving have been white, however, including my current car.

Some manufacturers make white vehicles for the Corporate world. My guess these white Subarus are targeted for the Corporate clam-kissing crowd.

It’s not just Subarus. I see far more white pickups, too. But it gets pretty hot here and white is noticeably cooler.
