So I've got a crazy question....

What happens when the Uber you are in gets creamed by a large truck type product?? Who's gonna pay for my hospital stay??

(And I'm assuming here, but don't regular Taxi companies have insurance coverage for such?)

But I would be surprised if the City of London is doing this for any honorable reasons.

Shouldn't the goal be getting rid of the bribes?

I prefer a cabbie who knows the city like the back of his hand in a clean well maintained car over a non local ride share driver relying on bogus google directions but reality is the old school cabbies are mostly gone, the cabs are busted and gross, and ride share is cheaper, easier, cleaner, and more efficient. The medallion mafia is like the recording industry was 20 years ago. They need to adapt or get replaced.

Wrong.

My big problem with Uber is that they don't play by the same rules as other similar services. They don't need business licenses or "Medallions", and it wasn't until recently that they were required to have commercial insurance.

I have no problem with Uber doing business if they follow the same rules as other companies doing the same business. This just seems like cheating to me.

So maybe the right solution is to change the rules? But everyone needs to play by the same rules.

Just my opinion, although it's a soapbox for me.

(And, of course, this doesn't count the corporate culture of Uber....)

I get what you're saying about equity and same rules for all. But, on the other hand, how else can you open up the marketplace for competition? The medallion system is anti-free market as it serves to protect the current sellers from the influx of additional sellers which would tend to lower prices or better products.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Your medical insurance Co. But they'll try to get reimbursed by the person (or company) at fault.

That's the beauty of single payer insurance, doesn't matter who is at fault, the taxpayers will split your bill.

And like I and others have said, to use one example, they should ALL have commercial insurance. I don't think that's one of the "rules" you'd like to see relaxed.

So I guess you are a taxi driver or a just got made the taxi-czar.
I say leave the Uber dudes alone and let the taxi dudes fight for their own rights.
