Any suggestions: brands, equipment deals etc... Any help would be appreciated. Internet shopping/browsing viewing videos, kids homework Some spreadsheet and Access database work, taxes, some Netflix watching/streaming. My son will game a little on it, but we have an xbox one for most of our gaming. Looking for a DVD burner or getting a stand alone DVD Bluetooth player burner. Thank yu for your assistance. prefer $700 or so max.

Your plans for it, any needed features, and a budget would help folks give advice.

I have a few lenovo machines that have served me well.

What do you want to do with it? Try and be as specific as possible so you can receive good feedback.

I think that Dell has a sale going on now...

I bought a 17" Refurbished Windows 10 Dell a couple of years ago from Newegg. It's been a really good laptop.

"Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil... Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 5:20,24

Acer recertified is worth a look if you're going cheap. I surf with a 15.6 chromebook and it's great usually 150-$200

Costco sometimes has great deals on name brands. I got a Dell at Costco for $800, the exact same specs were $1300 at dell.com. Dell outlet also has great deals.

Now for what you might want. Get a SSD for sure. My guess is 500GB should do it, you can always get an external drive for pictures, videos, etc. I would recommend an i7 and at least 16GB memory.

If you have more budget, 1TB SSD, i9, and 32GB wouldn’t hurt Smile

B&H photo has a heck of a deal on a top of the line Alienware 17 r5: Link

-2.9 GHz Intel Core i9-8950HK Six-Core
-NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 (8GB GDDR5X)
-32GB DDR4 | 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD
-17.3" 2560 x 1440 120 Hz G-Sync

Plus they are bundling a nice 24" monitor, mechanical keyboard, and mouse with it.

And the first two responses to your post are correct. If you give just a little extra information, you won't get the range of responses, $150 - $2,600, that you now have.

Look at the Dell refurbished web site. XPS series is a solid LP and most of the "refurbished" units are new but must be considered refurbished because they don't have the original boxing. I picked up an XPS 15 about 6 months ago and I'm really pleased with it.

This. I have an xps13. Love it
I also have a MacBook Pro. It’s quite awesome for everything aside of MS Office, and I’m too cheap to buy the Mac compatible office suite.
