I might have said this before, and if so, sorry for repeating. But, I read The Gulag Archipelago many years ago, and as I read it then I kept thinking, "Who were these people??" They seemed utterly alien. I never even imagined that what I was reading could happen in America. Impossible.

I started to re-read it last summer, but I had to leave off because it was just too depressing. Then, the hearings for Justice Kavanaugh were excruciating to watch with the totalitarian mindset of The Gulag Archipelago in the background. The fanatical, mindless, brutal apparatchiks Solzhenitsyn described-- here they were, in America, among us....

Whether it's Stalin, or Mao, or Pol Pot-- or Warren, Kamala Harris, or Alexandra Occasio-Cortez-- the weak, the parasitic, the useful idiots, are always lured in by the promise of free shit for all! Free medicare! Free college! Always the guise of compassion and justice.

And under all the sham, the brutal desire for total personal power at all costs.
