Our new to us house is being tented for dry wood termites. They leave all the windows and doors open while the house is under the tent and it just dawned on me that means the whole house will be wide open for a couple of days. We've moved the easily moved valuables, but we can't move everything before the tenting.

I'm thinking air mattress in the minivan, Mossberg 590A1, P226, Fenix LR35R, and a cooler full of Diet Mountain Dew.

I'm thinking of pitching a tent in the backyard as a deterent/decoy, rearranging the interior security cameras to cover the ground floor points of entry, and setting the alarm system for motion sensors only. Alternatively, maybe I can get my 20 year old son to come down from college for the weekend and he could cover the back while I cover the front.

What else should I be thinking about?

^^^Nice! I could do that and it wouldn’t even be weird. Not sure about the nightly thunderstorms we’ve been having though.

I'm on season 5 of Breaking Bad, so the termite tent image gave me a chuckle.

Maybe a couple trail cams, if you don't want/need to be on site?

Get an old motorhome, park it in the driveway sleep in it, put cameras up everywhere, inside looking at the entry points.

Grill outside with burgers, brats, beer, and bring out your TV, hook up a streaming device so you can watch anything you like.

Table, gun cleaning solutions, rags, and guns, lots and lots of guns.....

^^^It's the only way to be sure.

Storm today blew our trashcans over.

And yes, people are that stupid and daring.

I am going to get the pool furniture and gril out. No sense sitting in the minivan the whole time. Need to get some bug spray.

While we should never underestimate people's stupidity, I'm sure the house needs to be opened and empty of people before the fumigation to get the equipment set up, and after to let it air out. (?)

It does, but apparently all one needs is a $50 3M vapor mask from Home Depot. The internet says burglarizing tented homes is a thing, the contract says the tent people are not responsible, and we are free to hire security guards. There are security companies that specially offer this type of service.

Speaking of opened an empty, we have to give them all the keys which they then put in a lockbox. Guy even said it’s dumb because all the sliders will be wide open. Plus, we have electronic locks so locking up the keys doesn’t accomplish anything.

Huh, when we had ours tented in SoCal, all the doors were unlocked but the windows were closed while tented (and the fumigation company had a key to the doors :O)

Then, when the tent came off in the morning, they opened all the windows and we were allowed back in a couple hours later (in the afternoon).

Also, the home next door was a short term rental (and we knew the owners) so wife and I stayed there.

I would rent a small Class C motorhome and camp in the driveway as long as the driveway is not at an extreme angle that can't be corrected with blocks.
