Damn Johnny. Hang in there. Seems advances in treatment occur every month.

When I got my diagnosis I was told had I got my cancer a decade earlier, it would have been a death sentence with maybe a couple years at most to contemplate things. I'm still kicking now 7 years into this crap. Granted there's side effects but no one said treatment was a free lunch.

Hang in there, Johnny. Prayers offered up.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Praying for the best for you. In the event that you end up having to get dialysis, find a dialysis unit with really caring RN, technician and dietician. My wife is a Dialysis RN for 25 years now. Having a team that truly care makes a HUGE difference. First step though is to get a good Nephrologist. Read professional reviews if there are any. Ask all the questions you may have, and ask all available treatment options.

I've had a Nephrologist for several years now. My kidney function is in the 40-50% range and slowly improving. The doc has me on several medications beyond what my GP has prescribed for me, and apparently they are helping.

The first thing he and my GP did was to take me off Metformin (a Diabetic medicine) because it was damaging my kidneys. He confirmed my need for furosemide ("Lasix") and supplemented it with Metolazone--both to control swelling in my legs and reduce the load on the kidneys. Recently he has also prescribed Allopurinol because my Uric Acid levels were getting high. (My GP had prescribed it years ago for a while for the same reason, but the need for it subsided.) For a while the Nephrologist also prescribed Losartan, but it was interfering with some other meds and was stopped.

All this is to say that a Nephrologist can do a lot to remedy problems with your kidneys. You need to see one regularly if you are at Stage IV. (I may have at one time been at that level, but treatment has improved my condition a lot.)

Keep fighting and get regular appointments with a Nephrologist.

Prayers sent.

I got down to around 54 before I was diagnosed. It is believed popping ibuprofen like candy is what did it to me. I stopped ibuprofen 100%, and I only use acetaminophen now.

My nephrologist's very basic kidney health tips are: limit salt, don't get dehydrated/drink a lot of water, don't hold your urine, and don't do a lot of caffeine.

J3, my friend, this is most unfortunate news. Don't fret though, you have options.

Quickly I checked Nephrologist at Emory Healthcare here in Atlanta. Emory If you click on that link, you'll see dozens of Nephrologists. At least one has availability to see new patients inside of 30 days. And, although not good, is a lot better than 180.

I can assist with transportation and lodging as needed.
