Oklahoma to use nitrogen for executions
Finally, reason prevails.

“Oklahoma officials have said they plan to use nitrogen to execute inmates once the state resumes the death penalty.

The move marks the first time a U.S. state would use the gas to carry out capital punishment. Oklahoma has been trying unsuccessfully for months to obtain lethal injection drugs. …”

It's about time, eh?

Why make it so complicated?

Good.

It's simple, effective, painless, and can be generated/concentrated relatively easily and cheaply, without relying on chemicals with limited shelf lives that can only be obtained through complicated supply channels.

Kind of a no-brainer.

Hell, revoke thier right to breath our air. Place these scum in a sealed room and leave them to think about thier crimes and impending death until the oxygen is gone. No muss-no fuss and they ultimately "off" themselves.

Good plan. I've often commented that lethal injection along with just about every other recent method is WAY too problematic. Not even sure why they need a mask as stated in the article. Wouldn't a somewhat sealed room suffice? Not like you need to prevent a toxic gas from escaping like the old cyanide based gas chambers.

Im good with everything other than the painless part.

"Painless" is important, because that's one of the primary angles that the liberals are using to attack the current lethal injection cocktails.

They're claiming that because lethal injections are allegedly not truly painless, and the method can be botched resulting in further pain, that it constitutes "cruel and unusual punishment" as prohibited by the Constitution.

Nitrogen asphyxia, on the other hand, is recognized as a painless death, where the subject drifts off to unconsciousness in a euphoric trance, followed by death from oxygen deprivation. Thus the opponents have no grounds for objection, at least regarding the pain/cruelty angle.

HOW DOES NITROGEN KILL AND WHAT WOULD YOU FEEL BEFORE DEATH?

Nitrogen makes up roughly 78 per cent of 'normal' air.

Oxygen, the gas essential for life, makes up around 20 per cent.

If the oxygen percentage falls below ten per cent, it can be deadly.

Nitrogen gas causes death through a process called 'nitrogen asphyxiation' via the odourless, colourless and tasteless gas.

The gas is completely undetectable to human senses, and so in theory you're unlikely to feel a thing.

But that has not stopped campaigners from arguing that its prospective use for capital punishment purposes is inhumane and must not be allowed.

They argue that there is not sufficiently strong evidence to prove the safety and legality of the new process.

Campaigners also say that many things can go wrong when the state seeks to terminate involuntarily the life of someone who wants to live, who will be struggling determinedly and trying not to breathe.

Normally, when a person suffocates they will experience severe pain as carbon dioxide builds up in the bloodstream.

Nitrogen gas does not cause this build up of CO2, so there should be no discomfort preceding death.

To perform nitrogen asphyxiation as capital punishment, the condemned would be sealed in an airtight chamber pumped full of the gas.

This would cause a painless death by lack of oxygen.

People do die accidentally of nitrogen asphyxiation, and usually they never know what hit them.

It may even be possible that death by nitrogen gas is mildly euphoric.

For instance, deep-sea divers exposed to too much nitrogen develop a narcosis known as 'raptures of the deep,' which feels similar to being drunk.

Simple and effective.
Cheap too.
Nitrogen Narcosis is perhaps TOO GOOD for these criminals -- but I can live that.

Or maybe place these scumbags in a room full of liquid nitrogen?

I been saying this for a while. Don't even have to announce it or take them on a walk to the chamber either, simply make the death row cells airtight and do it in the middle of the night. Prisoner goes to sleep and just doesn't wake up. No muss, no fuss, clean and efficient.

Common sense would dictate that thee concepts "cruel and unusual" always need to be understood within the context of execution methods, and all execution methods of the past have caused some pain. It is pure lunacy to insist that an execution must be painless.
I understand that we don't want it to become a gory spectacle of torturous revenge, but it boggles my mind that we really have a "legal issue" at all. There are so many traditional execution methods available, and yes, they cause some pain and discomfort. Boo Hoo.

There are certainly ways to kill a man that are absolutely painless.

The problem is that those methods are usually a bit messy, which of course we can't have.

Yep..
TBox is even simpler and more cost effective.
No doubt about it.

It would be funnier if we used Nitrous oxide.

It works, and should be painless. Probably better than letting them OD on dihydrogen monoxide.

But this would be fine by me:
