Sony stands up to Chinese Communists on Statue of Liberty By Post Editorial Board May 3, 2022 | 5:21pm With great power comes great responsibility — a motto taken to heart by Sony recently, when it defied the demands of the Chinese Communist Party to delete the Statue of Liberty from “Spider-Man: No Way Home” ahead of its release. Apparently, China’s censors asked the Japanese entertainment giant if it could cut Lady Liberty from the film’s ending, but was rebuffed given the prominence the statue plays in the film’s climax, in which the three spidermen swing around one of the world’s most identifiable markers of freedom whilst battling supervillians. The Japanese and the Chinese have no lost love. Glad to hear it. The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.

I say we should now start actively removing prc landmarks from films if they want to be shown here. Or in Japan. "Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority share in it." L.Tolstoy "A government is just a body of people, usually, notably, ungoverned." Shepherd Book

Truth. My Dad was stationed in Japan during the 50s and he said the worst insults were to call someone Chinese or Korean. Had a good friend that was Chinese and he hated Vietnamese with a passion. Honestly, someone should do a chart.

About time a large int'l business stood up to the CCP. Consider the Sony data hack several years ago by North Korea, which was likely due in no large part thanks to China, I'm surprised Sony Pictures still wants to do business there.

Almost sounds like it would have fucked up their big ending climax scene and cost them some money. Probably figured fuck the ccp, the rest of the world would make it up. Hopefully the ccp are beginning to step on the wrong toes and will get some push back. Fuck those bat flu, economy killing shits. ___________________________________Sigforum - port in the fake news storm.____________Be kind to the Homeless. The Chicom bastards responded by banning the release of the movie in China Someday these assholes will be overthrown

probably a good thing I don't have a cut |
Sony is a multinational corporation. Sony Pictures Entertainment is part of the Sony Corporation of America, so I don't think Sony Japan had any input in the response to China. If they did, it might have been the same response but I doubt it got to that level.

So the Chinese want a superhero battle with multiple spider men to take place in empty air? What is Spidey supposed to swing from or around? This message has been edited. Last edited by: egregore,

I just want to point out the goddamn Chicoms are why we are stuck with all of this stupid superhero movie dreck these days in the first place. Apparently the superhero cartoon violence and the generally safe storylines are what are easiest to get played on movie screens in notoriously censor-happy China.

Serenity now! |
Anyone in China that wants to see the movie already has an illegal copy of it. Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice - pull down your pants and slide on the ice. ʘ ͜ʖ ʘ
