pbslingerUpdate on my skating buddy
5 years ago I posted about a skating friend I met at public skating session while training for short track speed skating. She was an 8 year old beginning figure skater who appreciated my speed and was inspired to also go fast. The best moment was when she reached for my hand while we skated together one day. Looking back, I got an early sample of being a grandfather before my grandson was born a few years later.
She quickly developed as a competitive figure skater and soon was winning competitions even while competing in older age groups. She realized a dream skating in pairs at US nationals last year and got 5th. Yesterday she got 3rd at US nationals in pairs skating.
Quite a girl who early showed focus and determination. She has had great coaching and at 13 is still progressing. An honor to see her as a beginner and to see her accomplish her dreams.

PR64I think that's great.
I coached kids in soccer for 20 years and it's rewarding to watch them them grow up and succeed.

David LeeI remember the topic pb. It goes to show how young folks can be inspired to become something they dream of. Pretty cool to read of her progress.
