I have an older, 12yrs, Stihl FS55R trimmer. I need the recoil spring cover assembly that comes with the cord, recoil spring etc.

It seems it’s about a $30 part but I can’t find a number. All I can find is aftermarket and I want OEM.

I saw this site a few years ago posted here for someone looking for Stihl parts. If it's still there it could be what you are looking for: www.lilredbarn.net Good luck.

Just because you can,
doesn't mean you should

I think Stihl controls OEM and makes the dealers hold the MSRP.
Unless you can find a NOS or good used one, just buy one from your local dealer.

I buy all my parts from the shop in England. I got tired of the dealers not having the parts in stock and then I had to pay shipping.

Yes, if needed go to a local authorized dealer.

Stihl has very strict policies for authorized dealerships in the US on OEM parts and products. If they don't follow the polices Stihl will pull their dealership. Not many if any will risk their Stihl dealerships to sell OEM parts online. Best to get from your local dealer.

Used or aftermarket might be about that.. OEM nope.

I’ve found locally I need to have the part number to get it ordered and to make sure I get the right part.

The part from diy in the UK is £48 so that’s half of what I paid for the machine. I will probably not do that. In the USA, looks like about the same price.

I can replace the spring and small parts a bit cheaper probably but I’m not sure thats worth it either for the cost.

Thanks!

Do you have a picture of what you need?

The reason I ask is that I have the exact some model (purchased in 2009) but with a broken shaft drive. I'd be willing to take that assembly off and mail it. Heck, if I can get the shaft off I'd be willing to mail the whole upper end assembly to you for parts (I checked USPS and mailing the whole intact trimmer would be outrageous). The whole upper assembly should fit in a USPS "if it fits it ships" flat fee box.

Thanks! Let me know how much!

It’s the large orange plastic guard part on the back of the engine that houses the pull cord and the spring assembly. Comes off with three large Torx head screws. It’s all one assembly.

However, I’d take the whole upper assembly as well. Whichever is easiest for you.

I got the shaft off over lunch so I can ship the whole upper assembly. Also, I took off 3 parts off the lower assembly you may find useful (the safety guard, the midpoint handle, and the rotating spinner grip by the trigger). It's light and all fits in the box so it won't increase shipping.

As far as cost, consider it an instant karma (i.e. free parts and shipping is on me). E-mail me your USPS mailing address and I'll drop it off over lunch tomorrow.
