Some of you know that I enrolled in an Aikido dojo 4 years ago at the ripe old age of 60. Today at age 64 I managed to pass my senior brown belt test. In another year I hope to be ready for an attempt at shodan, first degree black belt.

Sorry for the grainy vidcap...

Congratulations!

I know aikido, karate, jiujitsu, and several other Japanese words.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Congratulations! Quite the accomplishment.

I also took aikido many years ago. I used it extensively in my bail enforcement career. If there was a dojo anywhere close for me, I might consider getting back into it.

That is fantastic!

I took up Aikido many years ago, when Steven Seagal was all the rage and I regret not staying with it.

I now at 53 years old, I figured maybe it was too late to get back into it.

Thank you for posting this, I have to check this out again.

That’s a serious accomplishment which requires great dedication. Going to the Shoran level will be like going from a nice 1911 to a finely tuned full custom 1911.

I achieved brown/double black stripe in my younger years which the next belt would have been black but with career and family changes I lost my ability to dedicate the time and focus. One of my greatest regrets in life. If I started back up now, which id love too if I could, id have to train in a diaper. Maybe there’s a style where I can earn a black diaper?

I would be remiss were I not too include a pic of me practicing for the test the day before, during which I managed to take a bad fall resulting in a picture-perfect face-plant.

Here I am post face-plant undergoing emergency fermentation therapy...
