Anonymous claims to have stolen data from Epik
I always thought that anonymous was more of an anti-government group and didn’t generally initiate random nuisance attacks on small business. What could they hope to achieve from stealing and releasing this data?

According to the hackers, stolen data includes:

Domain purchases
Domain transfers

WHOIS history
Payment history
Email forwards, catch-alls, etc.
Over 500,000 private keys
Account credentials
Git repositories
An employee’s mailbox
/home/ and /root/ directories a core system

Did you read the article? It seems pretty clear what they hope to achieve, and whom they're targeting with the intent to compromise, expose, attack, etc

In case you somehow did NOT read the article, here's a few snippets...

quote:
"Anonymous hacktivist collective allegedly stole “a decade’s worth of data” from Epik, including its client’s information.

Epik is a web service and domain registrar provider that specifically serves right-wing clients."

“180 gigabytes of the user, registration, forwarding and other information behind the “privacy” web hosting and registrar service Epik, known for hosting fascist, white supremacist and other right-wing content as well as harassment and doxing websites,” reads the announcement on DDoSecrets."

"The list of clients of the hosting provider includes the conservative social media platform Parler, Gab, anti-abortion snitch website, pro-Trump The Donald site, the Texas GOP website, and BitChute video hosting service known for hosting accommodating far-right and conspiracy content."

In other words, someone in government said, here crack this brick. Release it, and we will look the other way for the pipeline, DC police hack. etc.

Anonymous claims one of their purposes is "anti-cyber censorship," but what they've done, with this action, belies that claim. They have revealed themselves to be typical leftists: Free speech... as long as it's speech with which I agree.

Agreed.

They're outing self-proclaimed right-wing sites as right-wing sites. What a mind-blowing development. I honestly don't know if they had any credibility in the past but this has got to ding their reputation.

I cancelled two credit cards that were associated with my account at epik. Epik is also offering credit monitoring for those affected.
