My washing machine started leaking the cleaning products (not water). I took out the cleaning products container and found there was a lot of goo behind it. I removed the goo and the leaking stopped. The cleansing was quite superficial and i wonder if there's anything else that csn be done, like using vinager or another household product to clean the guts of the machine. Suddenly, i discovered the fine properties of vinegar. Used it to clean the wife's white leather wallet and it worked perfectly. Had my doubts about a smelly ruined and still dirty wallet but it was perfect! 0-0 "OP is a troll" - Flashlightboy, 12/18/20

They make a product they sell here called Affresh…..which is made specificially for cleaning washing machines, it does pretty well...…….oxyclean powder also does a pretty good job......run the washer with the temperature on hot. I've heard of people using white vinegar also, but don't know how much and have never tried it.

Vinegar (I use a cupfull) and the hot water cycle is cheap and works well. I know you probably don’t have “Affresh” and those types of products in your area.

He's talking about the soap reservoir not the washing machine tub. Affresh is for tub. They build up mold and get clogged. One of my requirements when I bought my new one was no reservoirs. Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

Hello my friends, Remember i live down in the fourth world, soon to turn into the next Venezuela. For starters, the Latin American models for most electronic and household products have slightly inferior specs that those sold,in the first world. An unfortunate rule of thumb. Have no clue how old this machine is but it's an Electrolux EWT1000. Works fine. 0-0 "OP is a troll" - Flashlightboy, 12/18/20

From the OP: “To clean the guts of the machine”. I take this to mean the tub. Maybe I am mistaken. It’s not really clear.

Can't make it more clear since i don't know what i'm talking about. What i refer to is whatever lies downstream of the washing machime reservoir. The goo was quite dense where i removed it, my guess is that it can't be much better further down the machine's throat. 0-0 "OP is a troll" - Flashlightboy, 12/18/20

0-0 - try hot water. Think: a couple quarts of almost boiling poured into the soap container/ holder/ dispenser thing. It should dissolve any residual soap and kill anything growing. I'd suggest this too, but I don't know how he'd get the water out as running a load would only clear 2-3 ounces of hot water. Maybe some kind of purge valve or some other way to drain tank and associated hosing? Maybe hot water - siphon pump - hot water - siphon pump, and on and on til clean? Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

Thank you all. Don't think there's mold or anything else growing in there, no smell or other signs to worry about. Will use vinegar and boiling water, then rinse with a hot cycle. Bet it will buy me some peace of mind. Most of all, i wondered if using vinegar was a crazy idea. Apparently not. 0-0 "OP is a troll" - Flashlightboy, 12/18/20

You are correct. Vinegar does a great job of cleaning a variety of items. _______________________________________ Flammable, Inflammable, or Nonflammable....... Hell, either it Flams or it doesn't!! (George Carlin)

Vinegar is recommended to clean and de-scale coffee makers and Keurig machines, and we use it instead of liquid fabric softener in our washing machine (I admit its not quite as good as the liquid or waxed dryer sheets, but it does the job pretty well overall and is MUCH cheaper, and much cleaner in the machine!). Don’t think it would hurt to use some to clean out the detergent intake, plus several hot water cycles.

Might want to be careful pouring boiling water down something that may be plastic. The pipes I installed under the kitchen sink say max 180 degrees for water going through them. I don't know about your washer.

I pour hot water, then some bleach, some more hot water, then vingear then hot water again to clean mine. Yeah, overkill but I do it every six months.

I just “cleaned” our washing machine. Besides using the self cleaning mode, the instructions stated to pour a cup of bleach in the basket.. then run it empty of course. "Attack life, it's going to kill you anyway." Steve McQueen...

Good topic. I need to clean my washer as well. I too am a fan of white vinegar and water for cleaning and use it on kitchen surfaces as well as vinyl plank flooring, and tile. I don’t care for unknown chemicals all over kitchen surfaces, nor my dog’s feet, which he sometimes licks.

Lemishine works well for cleaning hard water deposits and gunk. Bruce "The designer of the gun had clearly not been instructed to beat about the bush. 'Make it evil,' he'd been told. 'Make it totally clear that this gun has a right end and a wrong end. Make it totally clear to anyone standing at the wrong end that things are going badly for them. If that means sticking all sort of spikes and prongs and blackened bits all over it then so be it. This is not a gun for hanging over the fireplace or sticking in the umbrella stand, it is a gun for going out and making people miserable with." -Douglas Adams “It is just as difficult and dangerous to try to free a people that wants to remain servile as it is to try to enslave a people that wants to remain free." -Niccolo Machiavelli The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all. -Mencken
