AT 5'9" he hits the ball like a 300 lb. gorilla with a soft touch when needed and nerves of steel. I'm impressed by this lad from Northern Ireland. Men fight for liberty and win it with hard knocks. Their children, brought up easy, let it slip away again, poor fools. And their grandchildren are once more slaves. -D.H. Lawrence

Do---or do not. There is no try. |
Yes, he played well today. Scottie Scheffler did not play very well, and I'm sure he's going to be kicking himself for a while. But Rory was very complimentary towards Scheffler in his acceptance speech, and that was pretty classy.

Can you even begin to imagine, In your wildest dreams, How great he could be if he were banging 8 or 10 smoking hot babes a year ? The golfing community would be hauling money too him in roll off containers. Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. Neck Ties, Hats and ammo brass, Never ,ever touch'em w/o asking first

I've not heard that, and he is listed number 4 on the top 30 Nice Guys of the PGA as rated by Golf Digest. link Men fight for liberty and win it with hard knocks. Their children, brought up easy, let it slip away again, poor fools. And their grandchildren are once more slaves. -D.H. Lawrence

Little ray of sunshine |
McIlroy has long been one of the best and most consistent players from tee to green. But his putting has not always been all that good, and this has prevented him from winning as much as his ball striking indicates he should. However, his putting improved a lot this year, and his results have reflected that. I hope he has made a permanent change in his putting, and ends up winning three or four more majors. He hasn't won a major since 2014, and if he had putted better during the years since 2014, he could have won four more already. And, yes, he seems like a good guy, too. This message has been edited. McIlroy's spectacular driving is his best calling card. Not just distance but accuracy. Most of of the uber long drivers just bomb away as the rough is usually not much of a penalty or factor unless it is a major. Add in keeping it in the fairway too then you are way ahead of the field. He's not bad on the rest of his game too. Now that Mickelson sold out and betrayed the PGA and golf fans everywhere - McIlroy is now one of my most favorite players.

McIlroy can get a little hot under the collar when things go wrong. He's thrown a few clubs -- I recall an amazing iron flung into a lake, a 3-wood onto a Jersey freeway, and thrown irons from bad tee shots and bunker shots. I don't care much for players who throw clubs, but I don't think Rory is jerk -- he just lets his disappointing shots get the better of him at times. When Rory has his complete game going, he shoots really low scores. From those of us who actually play this silly game, the skill levels of guys like McIlroy is mind boggling. **** Robin Williams -- No, 18 effin' times!

I met him when he was here for the US open at Shinnecock. Couldn't have been nicer or more approachable. Just my experience. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

Don't think Caroline Wozniacki would share everyone's opinion here. Would you break up with your fiancee via a brief (3 min) phone call after wedding invites were sent out? She thought it was a joke call, then he texted back "nope". That's not what I call class, quite the opposite.

I don't know much about this story, and I'm not here to excuse bad behavior, but there are two sides to every story. Vis a Vis Johnny Depp V Amber Heard. I know the feeling reported by Mr. McIlroy when he ended the engagement. Feeling ultimately trapped, even to someone as wonderful as the bride-to-be, leads to irrational and unkind acts. Is it better to be unkind before the marriage, or in a lengthy "honeymoon?" But, as to golf, he is becoming a person for whom I cheer. As I return to the golf hobby, it is fun to see him in a variety of roles and having success. ------- Trying to simplify my life...

Decent bloke, GREAT driver of the golf ball, mediocre, or worse, putter. Should have won 4 or 5 more but the flat stick let him down. I'm gonna vote for the funniest frog with the loudest croak on the highest log.

Well..... Rory's official PGA earnings this year were $28.3 million. Last year, Rory's sponsorships & endorsements paid him an estimated $35 million. He also has some earnings from the European tour. Forbes estimated that he earned $52 million in 2020. Rory's estimated net worth was $220 million in May 2020.

I like the way he handled the "remote control golf ball" incident. That guy's "its my dream" probably became a nightmare. Wonder if he will ever be able to attend another tournament?

I haven't cared for the guy since he hooked up with Tiger Woods and began to emulate him. But...that's just my opinion. Plenty of other good golfers to root for. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." Doug Patton.
