BB, pellet or real .22 LR gun?

Small mice, not big rats.

12 Ga shotgun with #8 bird-shot. Cylinder choke.

better choice: when we had 3 cats we never had mice. Plus cats are kind of cool.

Crosman P1377BR. You can crank it up to your heart's desire, and it'll feed pellets or BB's. I wore one out in my youth, and they still make them.

I'd opt for a .177 pellet gun shooting at 500 fps or less. That should be good enough without over penetration. A BB gun's ammo is much harder and might be more prone to ricochet. I got this one ~40 years ago and would be ideal...except the price has gone WAY up...

That's cool, the one I posted looks like a spiritual successor to that one.

Given your relative area, I'm guessing anything bigger than a suppressed subsonic 22lr/short would be too much of a report.

I'd guess maybe a pellet pistol?

Yes, in all seriousness, a good mouser would serve your needs much better than a good Mauser.

This would be one of those times when a laser sight would make a lot of sense on a gun.

You could hire an assassin.

Short-term, of course

pcp air gun hands down.

It can be an investment as you will need an scba tank and guns range between 300 to 3000 dollars.

I didn't have mice, but I have removed squirrels, ground hogs, chip monks, skunks and racoons from 25 to 60 yards with ease.

I sit on my deck reading kindle and peck them off when they mess with my garden.

There are many videos on youtube of people taking out 40 or 50 rats or more in one sitting with pcp airgun setups.

I'd go with BB / pellet gun
Fun little toys that also improve your skill around the house with not a lot of worry or $.
