The SCOTUS confirmation circus has begun....
Corey Booker is just an ass.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Did someone on the R side about 15 minutes ago say the FBI did investigate Dr. Ford's claims and determined there was no need for further action?

So Booker doesn't like how the game is played so he just leaves? Take his ball and goes home? Childish.

STFU Booker! No its not an entitlement, Kavanaugh has had a stellar career and he worked hard to be worthy of a nomination

Glad to see him walk away - hope Booker's time on that committee he wanted since 2013 will come to an end.

I want you guys to cut this out. Some of you can't wait to be miserable. There will be a vote shortly.

Cut out the doomsday predictions. Cut it out.

I don't want to see another word in this thread about 'rumors'.

With Spartacus leaving, the vote will now be 11-9.

He probably went off to smoke in Pocahontas’s teepee.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

The police can start an investigation when they know there is a crime. The DA can bring charges even if the victim doesn't want the defendant to be charged. As a matter of practice, many crimes are initiated only after a report from the victim, and some crimes may be very hard to prove without the victim's cooperation, but as a matter of the structure of the justice system, initiating a prosecution does not require a report from a victim.

As the easiest example, imagine that the police find an unknown homeless person dead with a gunshot wound. They will certainly investigate and if they identify someone they think did it, the DA will prosecute. All without a report from the victim.

I'd be happy if all the D's walked out now and the final vote was 11-0.

Perfectly fine with that!

I watched the Ford portion almost in it's entirely, streaming on a computer.

I'm no expert, but I am SURE she was coached and rehearsed this entire thing. EVERY TIME the female prosecutor asked her a question, her eyes would dart from side to side as if taking signals from handlers. She could not look Grassley or any other Republican in the eye, her head went down each time. Her eyes were telegraphing something too the way she would go bug eyed at times and other times cast them down.

A performance worthy of an Oscar, if you ask me!

Ah. Thanks for the clarification. What would be the likelihood of the police opening such a case without a complainant coming to them? Not being snarky, truly curious.

Yes, the FBI was given the letter and made aware of the allegations, did what they do and returned a response of nothing further for them to do.

While technically factual I think you are missing the point, perhaps on purpose. The "victim", or someone with 1st hand knowledge of an assault, would most likely need to report the crime to the police. I don't think any beat cops are stumbling upon the scene of a past sexual assault and starting investigation as they would a homeless corpse.
