Older Toyota Avalon owners chime in
So we are needing a reliable vehicle to make longer road trips in comfort and good gas mileage.

In my history Toyota's have and still pass the test of time for reliability over almost everything else.

This vehicle needs some cargo capacity. Interior and trunk.

I am not concerned about style or sports car performance.

28-30 mpg.

Looking at something early 2000's with 150k
at $3000-4000k budget.

Can I get another 100k? Is the 3.0 V6 a great engine? Anything I should be leary of on this vehicle.

Another vehicle I should consider?

Thanks

I have a 2007 Avalon with 208,000 miles on it. Always had it serviced on time, and have only had two issues with it, 1. The power door locks have quit working and 2. The air conditioner had to be replaced at about 150,000 miles.

Mechanically it is solid, and I wouldn't be afraid to jump in it and drive it across country. I get about 28-30 on the highway.

We have a 2001 Camry with the v6 engine. Purchased new. Service regularly. The valve cover gaskets have needed to be replaced and that is it for the engine. Struts at about 150k. Mileage has been about 23 to 25 over all. We'll keep it another 3 or 4 years.

Most of my honest reactions will sound racist or ageist or both. My mom had one in earlier iteration and it was the most reliable couch ever.

It’s a Toyota after all.

3.0 and 3.3 v6’s have a timing belt. 3.5 has a chain. Good engines but extra preventative maintenance cost to be considered.

Does that mean the 3.0 v6 needs to be replaced (timing belt) every 90k?

What year did they go to the 3.5 V?

Older Avalons, or older owners? Well, I'm 43 and my Avy Touring Sport is a 2015, so either way I don't count, huh? Big Grin

A coworker has a 2007 Avy, and absolutely loves it. My oldest daughter is considering buying one in that age range as well; they're fantastic cars.

I have a 2004 with 133k miles. Something just started thumping in the back I need to have looked at. It was bought new by my parents and has been 100% reliable.

I have seen some earlier Avalons well beyond 400,000 and approaching half million miles and, still looking and running good. You seem to get your monies worth with Avalon and Camry. Earlier Lexus is pretty much the same car.

My parents have a 2008 Avalon. Most boring, rock solid rolling couch ever. Even still looks good. Hasn’t given them a bit of trouble.

owned a 2006 avalon touring. best car i've ever owned by far. (have also owned 3 GM, 2 ford, 4 BMW, 1 Volvo, 1 Subaru, 1 mazda). Only reason I got rid of it was because I didn't need it anymore. Probably will stick with toyota for any future vehicle needs.
