I’ve got an RCR, I have zero complaints about it. But at the end of the day its simply and enclosed RMR. Have yall ever had issues with an RMR due to it being open emitter? I’m in the market for another red dot and before I buy another RCR, am I wasting my money? Again, nothing wrong with the RCR I have, 100% confidence in it, but RMRs are 150$ cheaper. This message has been edited. Last edited by: OttoSig, Eight years to retirement! Just waiting!

I have not had any major problems/failures with open emitter optics caused by the fact that they are open emitter. In fact, most of my optics are open emitter. I carry either IWB under a shirt or in a safariland duty holster with the little plastic hood that covers the optic. That said, I did finally pick up an enclosed emitter optic at the beginning of the year, and the convenience factor alone is probably worth the markup. I'm a little bit OCD about lint and smudges, and being able to just wipe the lens off with a finger or shirttail and not have to prove the crevasses/nether-regions of an open-emitter optic with a q-tip is much more convenient. ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.

I have a Trigicon RMR Type 2, which is open. It's on my duty gun- G-34. It's been on there for a while now. Snow, rain, dust, dirt, I don't know how many times I've dropped the damn thing out of my locker... It holds up well! No problems so far. I have some range instructors that swear by the enclosed emitters. ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. On the whole, the only "real" disadvantages to an open emitter is getting dirt, lint, or other stuff pooling on your glass and needing a lens pens to get down there and clean it off. That also goes for dropping it in mud and blocking the emitter. The only downside to an RMR for me is that it's still to expensive for what you get, and battery changes require pulling the sight off the gun, replacing the battery, making sure the sealer plate is fine, retorquing it, and checking zero before it's ready for use. YMMV.

To me having to pull the optic off to change battery is a deal breaker. There are plenty of good options out there. Inconvieneint enough in good times, but what about during a competition or SHTF scenario.
