Lion cub attacks toddler
So much going on here - people failing to realize the danger and what was happening. The lady handler knew to try to keep things calm, but the mom and the guy with the mic simply weren't processing what was happening.

Sorry the karmaniator is down. I can't embed.

I'm on edge and hyper aware whenever just a dog is close to or around my daughters. I can't imagine ever being comfortable enough to allow them in a situation like that with a freakin' lion, cub or not.

Agreed, especially non-domesticated animals, even 'trained' ones.

That female handler saved the toddler, especially when the mother wanted to start screeching and getting into a tug of war contest with a lion cub.

+1

There is zero upside to exposing a toddler to a wild animal and tons of downside. I would never expose my kids or grand kids to an animal that is close to the top of the food chain.

My SIL was a caretaker at a big cats sanctuary and invited us to come see once. My oldest was 4 then, and even though the cats had no way to get to her, every one of them looked at her like a piece of prime rib, and about half gave it a shot and crashed the fences. It was unnerving from 25 yards, much less that close, small lion or no.

2 things that trigger a predators prey drive above most anything else is fleeing, or a high pitched distress sound.

He thought he could interact with Alaskan Grizzly bears as though they were house pets. It was amazing that he managed to get away with this at all, never mind how long he did before the animal that is the top of the food chain demonstrated how it views everything it encounters as a potential meal. Do a web search of his name, I’m certain you will find more than you ever needed to know about him.

I’ll translate.

The female handler is telling the toddler with lion clamped on her leg, “Be calm.” Then she tells the audience “Nothing happened. Lions like children.” I bet they do.

And the ill-fashioned host is thinking “What the hell?”

SO...what was the point of having an infant human and a larger-than cute lion cub there?

Babies are all the same?

Initial reaction:
1. The kid was scared, rightly so given how the lion was looking at her
2. The lion saw food, the cries probably made the food sound injured and easy prey

Bad idea all around.

Of course, large predatory mammals are just comical humans with fur. And they talk. Disney taught us that.

The video is from 2015 or earlier. Fashion changes quickly on talk shows.

There was a wolf sanctuary guy in the parking lot at a Labor Day junk fest a few years ago. He had two wolves in separate cages. Signs all over saying keep dogs away. There was a picture taking opportunity as a fundraiser with you and an uncaged wolf. Wife asked if I wanted a pic. Fuck that. I told her the wolf was a wolf and if it did wolf things because it got set off by whatever there was nothing the handler was going to be able to do. My rule is to not fuck with predators that can kill me.
