The wife’s using an old mechanical one that’s off by >25% in different directions depending on the weight, so you really don’t know what you’re getting if you want to measure 2 ounces or 1/2 lb or 2 pounds of something. Whether it’s digital or analog mechanical isn’t important, but accuracy is. She’s learning what she can and can’t eat after having her gallbladder removed and a little more precision than this old scale has would be helpful. Something that can measure up to 5 or 6 pounds would be sufficient. Thanks.

My wife uses this one. Seems accurate. https://www.harborfreight.com/...tal-scale-95364.html

We use it to measure salt for the aquarium.

I just got a digital Kitchen Aide scale. No idea how accurate it is, but it's precise. I weigh packages and gun parts on it, mostly.

Find a heavy one. By weight in hand. My Royal ex2, I don't think is is made anymore. It has some nice weight to it.
When I used to work in a bakery, the junk I was given to weigh dough loaves was cheap and very light in hand. They would last for less than a year and act up all the time.

Escali Primo Lightweight Scale, up to 11 pounds. It was recommended when we bought it years ago, and has been rock solid.

Found this one on ebay about 15 years ago for like $15. Nothin special but it just keeps on tickin'. I did eventually get around to taking the edge off the bottom of the removable stainless platform with a diamond file. Now that it it doesn't try to give me little cuts, it's effectively perfect. It has lasted so well that a leaking battery is the only thing to watch out for.

We have THIS ONE and like it. The only time I was disappointed was once I wanted to weigh something over 11 pounds. It takes up very little room slid on edge in a cabinet. I bought it at first for measuring curing salt for jerky. We measure everything with it from hamburger patties to prep and freeze to pool chemicals.

Most are Chinese imports, and the price jumps radically from there, which it should.

For most food portions the lesser priced ones like the HF should do. I wouldn't weigh powder charges on it - as food portions vary in their actual ingredients and none are tested to meet a specific standard it's guesswork after that. One variety of spinach may be analyzed and found higher in certain vitamins than another. Hamburger has different fat content, etc. Weight is nice but I don't see it being precise in the results if it varies a few .l oz. It's hard enough to chop a 2 pound roll of burger into half pound increments as it is.

Weight of the scale in and of itself is no guarantee of quality, but it does help using it. Non slip feet go with it, too. Same as a dial phone in the day - they added weight to them because the American consumer thought Light = Cheap. Disassemble one and there were cast weights in the handpiece and base to simulate it. We just paid more to freight it in. Those were the days of plug in "cricket" phones.

Pick a scale on availability, brand, and what power source, it should give good service. Obscure batteries or a flash in the pan offshore brand would be counterindicated.

We've had this one for years and it's been excellent.

I prefer Ohaus scales and balances for any need. They make a size and weight capacity for just about anything.

Affordabe Scales and Balances is a good place to shop, with good prices on all brands.

My wife got one of these from Amazon six years ago. It gets used every day, because she weighs almost everything she eats.

I use it to break down bulk meats, vegetables, etc into serving size portions before vacuum sealing & freezing.

I've checked it with the test weights from my reloading scale, and at 50 grams it's right on. After that, I don't know, but for under $10 it can't be beat. The stupid thing has over 75,000 reviews at 4.7 out of 5, so somebody likes it.

I got this one at Costco earlier the year to replace a smaller one I had.

Looks good, 30lb capacity, imperial/metric/fluid measurements.

Replaced my postal scale that only went to 8 lbs as well

I have 2 Escali brand scales of different weight capacity ranges. Pleased with both and recommend.

This is the OXO 11 lbs digital food scale. I have the previous version for going on 6 years and use it daily. It is great for portioning, baking, and random tasks. I love that I can take the display out away from the scale and put large bowls on the scale and still read the display without having to tuck my head down under the bowl.

Truly a great kitchen tool. There is a 5lbs capacity one for half the price.

Same one I got my wife a few years back. She loves it.

I’ve had this one for 4 years. It replaced one that required button batteries and went through them quickly, plus it looked a lot better than it worked so I eventually tossed it and got this because of the option to plug it in, which s how I use it. Zero headaches.

Thanks, but as a matter of personal philosophy I’m trying to avoid products that come from China. Needless to say that’s a real challenge and not at all easy to do!
