Seriously?
When I was a teenager and a new driver it was pretty lax. The cops would mostly just confiscate your cooler if you had beer in the car.
Now, it's totally different. They set up check points. They breathalyze on the least suspicion. They lowered the threshold to .08 from .10
As an attorney, it's now almost impossible to get anyone out of a DWI charge. The "administrative alcohol" process begins immediately, and almost always ends in at least a suspension.
It's taken very seriously, at least in this state.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."
-- Justice Janice Rogers Brown

"The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth."

^^^ A first DUI offense here will get you a mandatory "blow box" installed on your car.

Interlocks can be bypassed. People commonly drive on suspended licenses.

No one goes to jail for more than a night. Not much of a deterrent. When I was a rookie, first offense meant serving weekends. Second offense meant serving a couple weeks in a row. Unless it’s a DUI involving death, no one goes to jail. Then it’s a pennies on the dollar sentence. State lawmakers do not like paying to house inmates.

Yep. Afaic, if a drunk driver kills someone, it's 25 years w/o parole. Second offense, 50. Third one, you get a choice of life w/o parole or death.

Jackwads keep trying. This is the third time the voters and courts have shot down attempts to legalize maryjane in South Dakota.

It's interesting when you look at the three counties that voted heavy in favor of legalization. Two contain the Pine Ridge and Rosebud Reservations and the third contains the University.

They also sell a device that fits over the blow box so your nonalcoholic friends will not notice.

Alcohol is the most abused drug in human history. It’s available on almost every street corner and licensed by the state and federal government. Look at domestic violence cases. Alcohol is present more often than not.

And introducing yet another drug to abuse and making it easily available to everyone makes what sense?

Yeah, that pattern doesn’t surprise me at all since university towns usually lean progressive on issues like this, and reservations have a long history of advocating for sovereignty and alternative healthcare approaches, including cannabis.
