I'm fairly certain his compliment was meant as sarcasm, as you have not really explained your position.

Do you honestly think I didn't know that?
Seeing how you STILL have not explained your position, and have only offered the childish claims of RCV voting being "retarded," despite having been called out on your lack of substance, both sarcastically and explicitly, it's entirely reasonable to believe you didn't understand his sarcasm.

Again, how about you attempt to rationally address the topic, rather than make childish statements?

You know who supports this? The Left. It's a key strategy of theirs, talked about every other fucking day in those circles, for a couple of years now, along with the effort to backhandedly neuter the Electoral College one State at a time. And it's working, too, because I see the topic coming up more and more. The idea is spreading, as per their plan.

I'm no lover of the GOP or the Democratic Party, but the solution isn't to change the whole system but to instead supplant one of the current major parties with something better, as has happened various times in American history. At some point something new will ascend to one of the top two spots and relegate the GOP or Democratic Party to gone or 3rd Party status.

But until then, and beyond, First Past The Post (and the Electoral College) work just fine.

The GOP is barely relevant now, only propped up by the Trump election and presidency. And the Democratic Party, too, is out of its mind. It's definitely time for change, but not for the rules to change... it's time for a saner version of both to exist, a sort of Tea Party quasi-libertarianism Party, without the kooky extremes of both the usual suspects.

Most of the sane Americans are sick of the nonsense from both Partys.

It was a lighthearted retort, to what I perceived at the time to be a condescending comment, meant to bring levity since I respect ensigmatic and didn't want to get into a hard back and forth. I mentioned my position, albeit without much detail, that I believe everyone should vote for his or her favorite and live with that decision. No backup votes.

This RCV nonsense amounts to a cop-out in my opinion designed to make what is supposed to be a meaningful hard choice into something less so, something that doesn't require as much fortitude, because, "eh, I know my third party candidate has no chance, but now I have a backup so what the hay." I just instinctively reject that way of decision making. If a 3rd party candidate is your man, vote for him; make him yours.

It will also lead to more fringe type candidates being elected in my opinion. I don't buy this notion that this type of voting system will guarantee the "majority" vote getter will always win. What if the only third party candidate on the ballot is from the green party? I don't care if it's a second choice, third choice, or 80th choice, I'm not casting a vote for a dem candidate, a green party candidate, or any leftist candidate. Period. So my ballot in that case would have one preference vote and one only. I doubt that I'd be the only one.

Furthermore, it seems that everywhere this system of voting has been implemented or tried is in a left leaning enclave. I wonder why that is...
