What to do with unused license plates?
While organizing the garage I stumbled across two pairs (4 plates, 2 numbers) of California license plates. One set is a Disabled Person set.

I guess I could just toss them but something about that seems wrong. They aren’t old or collectible, just average current style CA plates.

Any other ideas? Anybody here want them?

My barber shop has a wall map of the US made from cut up license plates from each state. Pretty cool way to recycle plates. Maybe you could trim one down into the shape of California.

Happened upon a license plate in a junkyard. The first four numbers were the same as my address. The next three letters were the initials for the street name.

Well shit! What are the odds? I had to buy it and slap it on the mailbox.

Maybe that was my day to buy my first lottery ticket and I blew it on an old car tag instead.

I've seen craft type signs made from individual letters cut from plates to spell whatever you want.

Open up a honky tonk and patch the holes in the floor with them.

My uncle had hundreds of them. I had to help him take them off the barn wall when they moved. We then re-applied them to the garage. I see them from time to time at flea markets.

Long ago I was visiting Braunau am Inn, birthplace of Adolf Hitler. I had lunch in a pizza place that had old US license plates all over a wall. I told the owner I'd send him some when I got home, and took his card. I mailed him a few. I went back about 10 years later and that place had been converted to a Greek restaurant, so I have no idea what became of the license plates. But I thought it was my little contribution of a middle finger to that town's most infamous native son.

I've got the tags my grand father started keeping back when you got a new one every year. 58 till now.
He put em on a wire and hung them on a nail in the shed. I brought then to NC with me.

I’ve been gathering plates for the last few years to use on the front of a bar we built in the garage. It should look pretty good once it’s finished.
I come from a family that has a hard time throwing old plates out so it was only fitting.

Ask your local police academy if they could use them for scenario vehicles. Particularly if they are from other states, it gives the candidates experience in calling them in over the radio in patrol and vehicle stops classes.

They'd certainly beat the ones I made out of cardboard.

Mount them on a board, thin sheet of plywood you hang on the wall, that way if you move or sell the place it's easy to take them down, you're not moving 100 plates one at a time...

No reason to not just trash them if you don't want them.

This. How many good reasons do you need to open a bar?
