JWFHung up deer
Took the dogs out this morning and scattered the herd of deer in my yard. Heard a strange sound and thought that is the weirdest “bark” I have heard a deer make. Heard the sound again, maaaa, and decided to go look. This is what I found.
Could not free her so I went back to my garage for my bolt cutters, clipped one wire and she was gone.
Just another day in paradise.

sourdough44I did the same decades ago, south of Atlanta. The smallish buck had his antlers stuck in a fence the neighbor put around his young tree.
The deer had the 10’+ piece of fence stuck in the brush, semi-wild dogs barking at the deer.
I scared the dogs away with a pistol shot, then cut the deer free.

Pretty good feeling to be able to do that. It had just happened when the herd scattered from my yard so she did not hang long.
I am glad I got the opportunity to free her but those hind quarters sure looked tender.

Daughter and I did the same thing a few years back. Walking down to the shop and heard the bleating, then saw the fence bouncing.
Went and got the wirecutters and cut Bambi free. It took off like a shot, I expect Mom was just out of sight in the brush.

Tailhook 84Unfortunately we found a yearling buck hung up by a foot on the top two wires at our place, but it was too late. He'd obviously had a great struggle because the ground was bare dirt in a 6' arc around him. He was completely disemboweled and it was a horrible sight. We got him removed and took him to my neighbor's boneyard for old cows and expired coyotes.
Our fence is no-climb wire fencing with 2 strands of barbed wire on top, so I know it wasn't hogs that got him. I've seen a few clever coyotes inside the fenced area over the years so it may have been a pack, or maybe bobcats or the pack of raccoons that hang around at night. The experience made me step up my varmint control efforts around the place.

GraniteguySkippers can't jump like mom can.
I had a young bull moose get one of his antlers caught in my wrought iron fence while eating vegetation a few years back. Made a helluva racket getting free and tore the entire section of fence out of the ground and deposited it about 50 yards away. Cost me $250.
