I found a catalog from Cook's. The catalog dates to the early 30's. Colt 1911's and Winchester 94's are priced at approx $30.00.

I don't think the company is still in business, but would like to find someone who might be interested in this catalog.

Dave Cook's was bought out by Gart Brothers, who later merged with Sports Authority, who went tits up a couple of years ago. Dave Cook's was a great place back in the day. I have a good friend that worked for them in college. I remember he picked up several odds and ends sporting goods returns for pennies on the dollar.

I was curious:
quote:
U.S. Inflation Rate, $30 in 1930 to 2018
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics consumer price index, prices in 2018 are 1,414.28% higher than prices in 1930. The dollar experienced an average inflation rate of 3.14% per year during this period.

In other words, $30 in 1930 is equivalent in purchasing power to $454.28 in 2018, a difference of $424.28 over 88 years.

The 1930 inflation rate was -2.34%. The current inflation rate (2017 to 2018) is now 2.52%1. If this number holds, $30 today will be equivalent to $30.76 next year. The current inflation rate page gives more detail on the latest official inflation rates

There was also a Max Cook's store on Larimer Street, both were great places. Bought my last box of .40 rim fire short cartridges there. Still have most of them in the box, no longer carry the Rem. Derringer.

I looked the other night at a 1936 Sears catalog and found the .22 I'm holding at the shop for myself. It sold for $7.89 at the time and a extra magazine was .60

I asked the owner if he would price match, you can figure out the answer, right?

Regardless back to the original subject at hand, that is a cool piece of history you have there.

That $30.00 in 1933 money today is worth $583 and some change.

The $7.89 retail price on the Ranger 36 in 1936 money today is worth about $144.00
And .60, the price of an extra magazine is about $11.00 today.

This makes me sad. I used to go to Dave Cook and Gart Bro’s as a wee tad and drool over the gun counters. Gart’s Sports Castle was always fun to visit as a teenager. Bought lots of backpacking gear from those joints back in the day. Before there was a REI in Colorado.

Sports Authority was for shit. Like Oshman’s in Houston ended up.

In the early 1930s, how long did it take to make $30? That is, if one had a job, being in the middle of the Great Depression.

I knew the Cook family back in the 90s. Did some work for them, considered them friends. Lost touch with them since I moved away.

I also remember Gart, and SNIAGRAB. And the Warren Miller movies!

Thus the metric system did not really catch on in the States, unless you count the increasing popularity of the nine-millimeter bullet.

Max, what purchase value are you asking? I don't have a personal need for the catalog, but my primary care doctor may consider it a real treasure.

I'd be interested in that for my home school. How much were full auto Thompsons?

A case of shotgun shell is $6.00. Used Lugers are $17 and a Model 12 or K-22 is $40. Lots of bamboo fly rods very cheap also.

I realize it is all relative.
