Canada Day!
For all my family and friends back home, and for Canadians here, Happy Canada Day!!

We won't be celebrating much this year - our American neighbours, [with whom we usually have joshing session about who got there first] have gone home to have their own family get-together on July 4th, and this year our daughter, who went into hospital at the end of July last year, has yet to be able to stand up.

However, the maple leaf-shaped cookies await this evening's meal, and we'll remember the day back in 1867 when Canada became one nation.

G*d bless Canada, blessed with the best friends a country may have - the United States of America and the United Kingdom.

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all of us command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!

I assume Canada Day is the same as Dominion Day.

I was at Sioux Narrows on Lake of the Woods Ontario for a Dominion Day celebration in about 1978 that included a canoe race. My brother and I won the race handily and were rewarded with play money cash and I think a case of Labatt's Blue. The local testosterone laden wanted their comeuppance, and they prodded us to enter the canoe jousting competition. This entailed my brother as stern paddler and me standing on the front seat with a long pole with a ball on the end. Two out of three with a win when the opponent jouster hits the water. I contend we really won when the judges called one joust a tie that I thought we won.

Oh well, second got more cash and an American lovely who worked at resort was sufficiently impressed with us. Too bad I was involved then with my future wife.

That began a streak of canoe racing victories that included 20 years in a row at our local lake. So my brother and my record is undefeated with 21 victories.
