These assholes never seem to amaze and sicken me.

Sorry for the cut and paste.

A bull died a horrible death at a Spanish fiesta after organizers strapped burning torches to its horns in front of a baying crowd.
The terrified half-tonne animal became confused and ran head-first into a wooden post – dying instantly in the collision.

The animal died at the burning bull festival in the small town of Foios, 10 miles north of Valencia in eastern Spain.

Initially it was tied to the wooden post in the centre of a makeshift bullring, in front of a crowd of several hundred onlookers.

It’s horns were set alight before the animal was released.

Unable to see where it was going, it ran straight into a poll in the middle of the arena and died
Disorientated and confused, it ran a short distance before turning round and crashing straight into the wooden post at full speed.

Local reports said the animal, from the Salvador Domecq ranch, died immediately.

Earlier in the day the same animal had gorged a man in the leg during the ‘bous al carrer’ festival, which is Valencian for ‘bulls in the street’, during which the animals chase locals through narrow lanes and into the town square.

The local man, aged 20, was treated by paramedics at the scene.
A video of the bull dying was posted online by animal rights campaigners.
One reader commented on a local newspaper website: ‘Torturing animals is not fun, it’s barbaric.’

Sadly, just one more indication of how far humanity has sunk over the last few years. Where such barbarism seems to be taking over what is left of human society.

Won't get into my thoughts on bull fighting.

Damn, the barbarians are at the gate.

These festivals and the torturing of bulls in Spain has been going on for hundreds of years.

Yeah, I know. Does not make it right, and the torturing of the animals has gotten worse as well.

In order to make it a fair fight they should send in the "bull fighter" alone equipped with, at most, a 6 inch knife and let them have at it.

What the heck? What people set an animal on fire and sit there enjoying its terror and pain?

Isn't the torture of animals some sort of precursor to criminal insanity, such as murder?

Yes. Maybe the Spaniards can set up an inquisition and look in to the matter.

Oh, wait...

We were in Spain earlier this year visiting wineries and drove through Valencia. We didn't see any bullfighting but did see a bullfighting stadium that was closed up. I thought they had outlawed this type of thing. We also drove through a lot of farm country and saw signs boasting of raising bulls, I presume for the ring, or perhaps breeding stock. We found the Spanish people to be very warm and friendly, and civilized people. I can't understand why they still allow this kind of thing to continue.

Oh no, bullfighting and the whole lead up to the bull in the ring is still widely done and very popular there. I just returned from Spain a few weeks ago for a wedding and had the opportunity to go to Pamplona with friends for their annual running of the bulls. I decided at the last minute to come home right after the wedding because I didn't want to be away from my wife and daughter that long so I ended up missing it. Had I stayed I would've went.

Had really hoped to read the story and find that the bull had killed several people and torched several more before it killed itself. These 'traditions' disgust me.

Seriously doubt the critter was in any pain as the flames weren't near anything that could cause it pain. Looked to me like it was just one really pissed off bull who was going to knock the shit out of anything or anyone around. Unfortunately (for him) he hit the post just right and broke his neck.

I've always been curious what they do with the carcasses after bullfighting (and these) type of events? Do they get butchered and eaten?

Torturing animals for spectacle and sport has been going on as long as humans have been able to do it. Historical accounts of everyday life in the U.S. and Britain, just to mention a couple, are full of references.

It’s hardly new or different, but it has become far less common in civilized countries in modern times. In the 1960s it was possible to watch “Bullfights from Mexico” on American television; can we imagine what the reaction to such shows would be today? And as for what’s a “fair” contest between man and animal, I’ll describe something as fair when the animals kill the humans at least 50% of the time. That doesn’t mean I object to what we do, only that we should be honest in what we call it.

Bull was killed by a sudden blow to the head. That sounds a lot more humane than how it is done at halal slaughter houses which are supposedly very common in Europe.

The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. Kosher slaughterhouses employ a method very similar to that of halal slaughterhouses, do they not?

I remember reading that a matador was killed within the last month or two. Probably read it here.

Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.

Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard.

One was killed a few months ayo, yes. I heard about it when I was over there.

People are killed and seriously injured almost every year at these festivals.

It not just about physical pain. How about over stressing the animal. Would it be ok if I taped a stick with firecrackers to a dogs head?
