Baby is due in 4 weeks (Holy shit). We live in an old row home, too many pets, not enough space etc. we vacuum daily, sweep daily etc. but I want something with some horsepower to help. I’ve been looking at “whole home air purifiers” based on the house size wnd layout we’d likely need one per floor which is fine. I want to cut down on pet dander, dust, etc. I see them ranging from 250 for 400sq/ft coverage to 1000 dollars for the same. We don’t have ducting... water radiators, etc. so it’d have to be a freestanding unit. Anyone have any experience? ------------------------------------ 135 ├┼┼╕ 246R | ||

You want one with a HEPA filter, not just an "electrostatic" filter or another alternative. With no ducting, you may need to have separate room purifiers, which is no big deal, they are pretty quiet and can be controlled with a remote. _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!" | |||

I had pneumonia a few weeks ago and my wife and I believe it was at least partially caused by poor air quality. We bought two IQ HealthPro Air Purifiers for our 3700 ft^2 home. We also bought an air quality meter to see if they were working. They work. We bought used machines for 1/4 price of new ones. The filters are pricey. New machines are about $1,000 each. We got 2 machines with new filters for $500. The filters are about $250 for a complete set. I should mention this i have one machine in the bedroom and another in livingroom/kitchen and dining room. The 2 machines are not good enough for the entire house. So we placed them in the most used rooms. I think it will hard to find a machine to do an entire house. | |||

when you say whole home, I’m thinking you mean in-line with your HVAC system. If you’re looking at standalone units, BluAir is the way to go. Expensive, but they work. Same issues here. Last week I found a mouse after the bedroom took on a sour odor. Old plaster dust and brick dust and whatever as this old house disintegrates permeate the corners. I've gotten rid of the rugs. A healthy swabbing of the floors with hot water and vinegar seems to make the room air as clean as it did when I ran the big air purifier. | |||

I recently went with this Coway Coway AP-1512HH Mighty Air Purifier with True HEPA and Eco Mode https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B...cp_api_JBeABb5DC9714 It was pretty much in the top 3 of every comparison article I read. Claims 361 square foot coverage but the reviews said it covers more easily. Had the lowest cost of operation for 5 years of any that ranked. Have it in the hallway upstairs. Run it on high during the day with all the bedroom doors open. Run it on auto at night. I use the Sharp: https://www.amazon.com/gp/prod...ilpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I'm sure that there are many brands and models to fit the bill. One thing you might consider is, for a large area, have multiple smaller units instead of one big unit. For example, for 400sf of coverage, get two smaller units that cover 250-300sf each. Get one that you can run 24x7 - will run at some low speed (~silent) unless particulate / order is detected and then will run at speed until gone (and then go back to low speed). I went with the people on craigslist so I could test them out before buying. | |||

I have two Honeywell HEPA filters. They work. Mine are older and somewhat noisy. I’d try and test one to make sure you can live with the noise and the vibrations it will make. __________________________ | |||

I have bad allergies, went to specialist, found out I am allergic to dogs, cats, & Ash trees. Well guess what? At that time we had 4 dogs, a cat, & live with woods behind us. To make it worse, 1 of the dogs is my medical alert, service dog. No way am I getting rid of him. So, I have been diligent doing everything else I can. Shots, got rid of carpet & drapes, & got a few air purifiers. My Dr. is ranked as the top allergy doctor in my state & he recommended BlueAir. Day 1 since using it, I haven't had a single sore throat (use to have them every day) & I haven't been sick a single day in a year & 3 months. Amazing. | |||
