This is the border just east of the Aldergrove crossing in WA/BC. The road on the left is in Canada, the road on the right is the US.

That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Why would she do that?
I think she was trying to see if she could cross the border. If so, she would gather her nessisarys and run. Who in their right mind goes jogging in a foreign country with out their paperwork but takes their phone. She admittedly thought she was across, but stopped to take a selfie from a near by cliff. My ass, she was looking to see if she could get away.
Seattle has an invasion of canadians, asains through canada, and of course the southern border. This case it was a french dingbat who tried to enter from the northern border.
Complete nonsense. She could simply enter the country just like any other French tourist.
I dunno, I kinda side with DsGrouse on this one. My old man was Border Patrol for nearly 30 years between El Paso and the northern border in New York state where the land border is just as permeable as it is here in Washington, and he saw all kinds of stuff. An idiot teenager who jogged across the border to take a selfie having snuck across the border just to say she did it would hardly peg the weird meter. Shit, there was a rash of idiot teenagers
dying taking stupidly dangerous selfies over the last few years so they could post them on social media. How is this somehow incomprehensible compared to the kid that fell in the caldera, or the one that fell into the Grand Canyon, or, or, or.....?
He's not implying that she was simply trying to sneak across for a thrill and then run back over. He's implying that she was trying to sneak into our country in order to stay here (at least that's how I read it; please correct me if I'm wrong). That's just absurd. I don't think I know a single French person--and I happen to know quite a few--who would prefer to live in the US over France...and that includes my wife.
I can easily believe that she knew she was crossing the border and intentionally did so for a picture, but to believe that she was sneaking across illegally for the sake of staying here illegally strikes me as nonsense.

Uh, me for one, when I was in France on business a couple of years ago. Took a jog from the hotel in St. Tropez and have the Strava record to prove it!

Rey HRHAnd if the jogger wasn't apprehended by the border patrol, the news story would have been Trump's border patrol is biased only against illegals coming across the southern border and not the northern border.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." lkdr1989Probably bureaucratic red tape due to the fact that she was a French citizen that crossed from Canada into the U.S. with no ID...most likely took awhile to get proof as to her identity and then figure out which country to "deport/release" her to; once she was in U.S. custody, I don't think there was going to be an easy solution as per regulations/laws.
*the quick release back to Canada may have been impeded by the fact that she may have had to go before an immigration judge???

So, we all think that illegal border crossers should be catch and release? Hmmm, now where have I heard that before?
Don't get sucked into that conversation with a liberal because surely they'll remember your responses for future use. Honestly, I think this was all a ploy to make the actions taken at the southern border make President DJT and his supporters look racist. She wasn't counting on being treated exactly like those "accidentally" crossing our southern border.

buddy357I heard about this earlier. There was a correction released by CBC who originally released this. I’ve been to Peace Arch Park before. You know it when you cross the border there. Honestly at that point she made the choice to cross regardless. Possibly with the intention of garnering attention for it.
Corrections
An earlier version of this story said incorrectly that Cedella Roman crossed the U.S. border from White Rock, B.C. In fact, Roman crossed into the U.S. through Peace Arch Park.

I work for a European company and we have multiple people from France, Germany, England and Belgium who have moved to the U.S. for work and ended up staying. Most go home of course but some really like it here and end up moving for good.
No doubt that the vast majority of the people who live in those countries would rather stay home but there are absolutely some who would like to come here, legally or illegally, and stay here. I don't know the intent of the woman in the story but let's not act like nobody from any country in Europe has ever tried to enter the U.S. illegally.

sig operatorJoggers' story and actions do not seem to make a lot of sense. Most first line officers, when faced with a story that does not hang straight, kick it upstairs. Upstairs almost always takes a while to sort it out.

There we go. That's a no-no, and I'm pretty sure there are signs everywhere stating it, in French even, as half of the park is in Canada.
That said, there are plenty of places up there, that if you weren't paying attention, it would be easy enough to wander across.

I'm reminded of a Snoopy cartoon I saw a lot of years ago. He's wandering around with his bowl on his head and a sack-on-a-stick over his shoulder, looking at a map and saying "gosh, they ought to have the meridians marked around here somewhere!"

Reports are it took three days to get the paperwork to the US authorities. The forms had to go through the Canaduans. Then there was as delay as the Canadians had to check that they’d take her back. Remember, she’s French.
The spot where she crossed is pretty narrow. The tide flats go into deeper water. It’s hard to understand why she wasn’t aware of the border. CBS did a sympathetic piece on her. However, there are signs posted and the area really isn’t a jogging path.

Maybe it is if you believe the story they’re trying to push. If you start with the premise that’s she’s 19 years of age in 2018, and she’s full of shit about her intentions, it’s a lot less incomprehensible. “Hurry durr, I snuck across the border and wasn’t put in a cage because I’m a French white gurl coming from the North instead of a brown kid coming from up from South!” I’m guessing if she hadn’t been caught and detained, we might have a thread where we’re discussing a snotty teen’s social media post that had gone viral with the left.
Just throwing it out there.
