I have a few Nest cams around my house. Backyard, front yard, garage and a Nest Doorbell camera.

Tonight we found a bear had walked right through our front yard. The doorbell camera has the video but of course, it cuts it short for some reason. The front yard camera, which covers the same area from a different angle completely missed the bear walking right across the yard. Totally useless.

FWIW, here's a pic of the view from the camera that missed it completely.

Maybe the bear was a Ninja?

Is the sensitivity of the cameras adjustable?

I would like to apologize to anyone I have *not* offended. Please be patient. I will get to you shortly.

Yes Wi-Fi. I did just find the sensitivity setting and changed it to high. But the camera has caught birds on the lawn before. No idea how it missed a bear.

I have my cameras set to record continuously. There's something about critters that doesn't always trigger a "motion". I get about 40 days out of 2TB before it overwrites.

How does the motion detection work on those cameras?

Also just curious, what is that white line?

I have no idea how the motion detection works. The line is just the power line to the house.

If your Google doorbell has to be charged, then it doesn't record continuously.

You can also check the area of your zone under settings. If the bear never entered your zone, then it would not have triggered the recording.

Also under settings, you can see what things trigger your camera: people, animals, vehicles, or any motion.

You can set it to give you notifications also depending on whether it is in the zone or not. My problem is that even if something is outside of the zone, it still sends me notification.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Some motion detection is more sensitive to motion across it's field of view, as opposed to directly toward the camera.

It appears that the bear might have been moving toward the camera.

Are they all wireless? I have found with my Wyze cameras that are all wireless that if too many are trying to upload video the one that started first gets priority and the others don’t get to save to the cloud.
With the wyze cameras I installed sd cards and they record to the cloud and what doesn’t upload is saved on the sd card

The doorbell camera (that got the bear) is wired. The others are wireless but they are connected to a constant power source for charging. The video is sent/saved via wifi. They are flood light/camera. So the camera itself is battery operated but constantly getting charged.

In any case pretty cool having a bear in my yard. Maybe if I ran into him it wouldn't have been so cool.
