Israeli man arrested for allowing dog to drive his car while he records it (article + video)
As many people as I see driving w/ dogs in their laps in the US they might as well start issuing dogs drivers licenses here.

While looking for the video to embed with this story I was surprised to see so many dogs driving cars videos posted to YouTube.

An Israeli man who filmed his dog “driving” his car was arrested Monday after the video was publicized on social media platforms.

The 35-year-old, a resident of the Arab village of Ein Naqquba near Jerusalem, uploaded the video of his dog standing in his lap with the animal’s two front paws holding the steering wheel as they navigate through narrow streets.

Jerusalem area police said the driver was arrested and taken for interrogation on suspicion of reckless driving. He was set to face a remand hearing Monday afternoon.
After arresting the man, police discovered that his vehicle did not have a roadworthy certification, adding to the man’s offenses.

“Those who carry out such acts endanger people’s lives. We will continue to act to enforce serious traffic offenses and prosecute suspects who endanger road users with their actions,” a police statement said.

Israeli dude has his hands on the wheel.

Bogus charges.

FWIW, I'm an excellent driver. I drove slow on the driveway when my dad came to Walbrook...

They should arrest him for wearing skinny jeans.

All those years on the street in patrol in Hudson County, NJ I'd bet the dog was a better driver.

Great way to kill or severely injure your dog if god forbid you hit something and an airbag goes off. Don't be a butthead and drive with your kids or your animals on your lap.

The dog’s owner should’ve taken paws before allowing that.

That is one of the very same arguments I've made for a decade or more now. I know I shouldn't let it, but it bugs the hell outta me when I see a dog, or even dogs, bouncing between the passenger seat window and the driver's lap, sticking their furry heads out whichever window catches their fancy, often blocking use of the mirrors.

An accident happens and, if the car is so equipped, the air bags go off, lil precious Darleen or Fido is going to suddenly have a real bad day...and, God forbid, if an accident is violent enough, now the driver has one or more 15-40 lb. cute furry missiles being ejected at high speed, or launched into the back of a passenger(s) head(s).

I've often wanted to ask EMS and First Responders just how often they have to deal with pets/ dogs at the scenes of MV accidents, whether the pets played a role in the accident, and what the outcomes were.

I'll readily admit that I'm greatly annoyed with the current trend of people dragging their pets along wherever they go, local shopping trips, grocery stores, post offices, restaurants, libraries, airline flights etc...

... but beyond that, I like (many) pets in general, and especially like dogs, and I just hate to see them involved in, or causing MV accidents, when they just don't need to be in the car, or at the very least, unsecured and bouncing around in a car.

It's bad enough that so many drivers are increasingly distracted by phone use while driving... but it's just plain stupid selfish negligence to have pets unsecured in a vehicle while driving, at least in many situations.

If someone wants to load Ol' Blue in the back of their old pickup to go bouncing down the gravel road at 35 mph , with little chance of seeing another vehicle, on the way to pick up the mail or head to the local fishin' hole, then I'm fine with that...but quit already with the dogs bouncing around inside the vehicle and distracting the driver.

I'm not usually a "there outta be a law.." type, but this is one of those issues where, if I was a governor or state legislator, I'd jump onboard with a properly conceived properly worded law that created an enforcement mechanism against unsecured pets in moving vehicles... whether they are allowed to drive or not. This bugs me as well. It's illegal to hold a cell-phone in your hand while driving, but there's no law against allowing fifi the shitzendoodle to jump around on your lap, hang it's head out the driver's window, obstruct your view, and interfere with your access to the controls while you're driving down the road. To make matters worse, most of the human offenders I see doing this are blue-hairs who can barely drive to start with.

I love dogs, but they belong on the floor or in the back seat, not in your lap while you're driving.

Nah. Very early in our married life I managed to convince my lovely bride that the people carrying compartment and the dog hair carrying compartment needed to be separate. For years we’ve had one pickup or another with a simple shell on it. Dogs go in the back, have shade and water, and if their hair blows around it is in their compartment, not ours. That, or they stay home, where they also have shade and water.
