please speak up, regarding 'issues'/glitches//design flaws/dealer failures/etc in the casual use of the 20' range units.

Besides being pretty spendy, what pros & cons can you list that would have influenced your purchase decision?

Have 40 years experience with various set ups.
Looking at smallish 2 person seasonal handy to use model. Plus, they all make a fine spare guest bedroom for a few days.

We have a 21ft TT. It's a Rockwood Minilite. Not as fancy nor as pricey as an Airstream, but it is a good size for me, the Mrs and the kiddo.

Mrs. BB61's family has had Airstreams for years. Quality is top notch. If I were to nitpick, I'd say their holding tanks are smaller than some with a little less ground clearance. I also think their awnings are needlessly complex to set up although maybe the new ones are powered.

If that’s all you need, look at a Casita. We use it for exactly that in addition to extended trips. Thing is bullet proof

Very heavy for their size. Choose wisely.

We have a Bambi. I'm no fan of trailers. The Airstream is very nice. However, I can give you a laundry list of crap that has gone wrong and pissed me off.

But that's with every trailer I've ever been around. Plumbing, pumps, electric generally unreliable. I can't stand the inner tapestry. Most often will mold. If you ask me go toy hauler or something gutted and customize it. (rant complete)

I'll try a quick pro con list for the Bambi.

Cons
1. Expensive as hell. Wife had to have it.
2. Had 3 tire blowouts in 1 trip cross country from having cargo in it. Too heavy apparently. Yeah I know my fault but point is the tires are not going to do you any favors.
3. Low ground clearance, IMO.
4. Need to install a converter to keep the battery good when plugged into shore power.
5. Plumbing issue with wife installing aftermarket sink attachment.

Pros
1. COLD/ Loud AC
2. Tough floor and inside to resist wear and weather, etc. I appreciate this.
3. Beds are comfortable
4. I like the stainless exterior vs most other options in trailers, both in look and durability.
5. Being that small it's quick and easy to hook up and take almost anywhere.

That's off the top of my head. Seems like something always needs tweaking or fixing. We use it for her office and a spare bedroom.

SP: that's start of a decent list. Plus they are just out of my budget anyway. Thanks for the tips .

Bump. Interested in a Basecamp 20X and have fallen down the rabbit hole of Casita, Escape, Oliver size trailers in 17-20’ range. Towing with a half ton.

I just need a bed, a shower and a toilet. Something out of the weather after a dusty day out.

My sister just sold her small Class A and ordered an Oliver after visiting the factory. She was impressed…

Scamp is another option Scamp link

The majority of the mass produced units described are going to develop roof leaks and delamination. Piss poor quality control. I don't care what the sales people say.

I've been looking online at Dune Sports dot com link in the Phoenix area. They don't really have any inventory, you order what you want, and don't order what you don't want, no extra crap you don't want or need, unlike most manufacturers. They make it just for you. They also have a Youtube channel so you can see what they do, pretty interesting.

They custom manufacture both bumper pulls and 5th wheels, and most are toy haulers but you can get a non toy hauler version if you wish.

For example, I'm wanting larger water tanks as well as larger gray and black water, 2 ac's, larger refrigerator, larger solar and battery system, higher ground clearance, more insulation, and a few other things are on my must have list. Also a generator and also with the onboard fuel tank to fuel up an ATV. I plan on spending my winters in Arizona and the SW USA and mostly boondock. Prices are listed, but are suggested retail, and they will make you a better deal when it's time to get down to serious brass tacks.

OP, I don't know what you want or need, and Dune Sports might not be a good fit for you, but maybe others reading this will find them worth pursuing.

Good luck to you.

OKCGene:
thanks for reviving this old thread.

I've looked at many & gone past the point now of not being able to get along without one anymore.
Friends have chilled us with stories about their difficulties getting a parking spot along the Oregon coast the past 2 years. A lot of the joy went out of it when many campgrounds went to 'reservation only'. Some are booked a YEAR ahead.

My Sweet Bride has been waiting for the English new light weight model design, but has been put off repeatedly for various importer glitches.

The "Bare Foot" model. She still wants to see it.
